I found this very interesting.

One of my favourite courses when I was finishing up my engineering degree was product design. It introduced elements of industrial design, failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), product functional decompositions (PFDs), and rounded them together very nicely to give us a feel for what a good design entails.

All during school, we're taught how to simplify structures or products, and then crunch some numbers or model the item in question to make sure it won't fall apart. Not once (until that product design course) were we taught the importance of synergy between form and function...

This is what makes Apple's and Dyson's products so popular. They manage to strike the balance so nicely, and that is what all engineers should strive to do. I wish my job involved product design....

Go back and read the original article.

There are quite a few errors and misconceptions about both Tesla and Edison in this comic. But they’re errors that I’ve seen before and they are often repeated, so it’s worth the time, I think, to address some of the big ones.

I don't understand why you think Forbes' critique was a "waste of time and effort". It provided a very interesting and much needed different side to the 'Tesla/Edison' story...

What else do you want them to write about that's worthy of their time and effort?

If I were in his position, I think I'd prefer the killer live out the rest of his life in prison than take the easy way out and die humanely.

Then again, a life sentence might allow parole and (depending on your location) implies only 25 years imprisonment, in which case I'd rather see the fucker fry.

Which one? I definitely thought of South Park when I saw this, but I didn't think there was an actual episode about such a toilet (but it definitely looked like something they're dream up of)

I was just about to post that. It is definitely an amazing documentary. Talks about the challenges Mandelbrot faced to find acceptance within the scientific community for his theory on fractals and his famous mathematical set.

It's a very inspiring story which introduces fractals to people in a very accessible manner.

NOVA FTW

Edit: There's another very good documentary about another Mathematician called Georg Cantor (who is, by the way, mentioned in the Mandelbrot documentary) here who pioneered set theory and worked hard to understand infinite sets. He also faced tremendous challenges in getting mathematicians to take his work seriously...only his story has a less happy ending than Mandelbrot's.
