OK, a few things:

  1. You're a decent guitarist based on that zeppelin thing you posted. Keep practicing. I've been playing for about 20 years and I can tell you that consistent practice (30-60 minutes a day minimum with intense longer sessions to target specific techniques once in a while) will lead to being "great", which can be pretty awesome if you play it right.

  2. Please don't say "help me get discovered", this is not how it works. If you want to make a living as a musician, you will need to constantly work to gain exposure and keep your listeners interested. Very few musicians ever reach a point where they can "coast" based on their level of success. You have the advantage of already having adapted to non-traditional living situations, so going on tour, crashing on couches, etc. should be easier for you than those of us who are spoiled in our comfort bubbles. Speaking of which, PLAY IN FRONT OF PEOPLE EVERY CHANCE YOU GET. The more you do it, the easier it gets. The worst tragedy is someone who has talent, gets "discovered" and then chokes in front of huge audience because they didn't go through the steps that confident performers go through.

  3. Your nose isn't that big, to my mind you're more attractive than the average 22 yr old. Most likely you get bullied simply because you're thoughtful, creative, etc and don't conform to local standards. If that's the case, consider moving to somewhere where everyone isn't a giant d-bag. I know it's hard when you have no money, experience, etc. But there are cities in North America where jobs are plentiful. Consider six or twelve months of living somewhere just to save up some money and move somewhere else where you can play.

  4. check out r/depression- they will help and support you. My girlfriend is clinically depressed and is on all kinds of medications so I know how hard it is, you can't "talk yourself out of it" or suck it up. But r/depression is full of people who are coping, and that is what you need help with.

These should be in every airport by chryllisin pics

[–]72skylark 0 points1 point ago

I understand it's kind of whiny, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make sense not to have plenty of outlets in an airport. People who have much less to contribute to society make all kinds of noise when they can't get a starbucks and full bar cell signal in the middle of nowhere. When you think about how much thought and money goes into making everything go smoothly in an airport, outlets should be way ahead of other amenities in terms of cost/benefit.

Basically it just goes under the heading of "because, fuck you, it's air travel". When you look at the justifications for all the pat downs, x-rays, delays, etc., none of it is really necessary, but people put up with it because they don't want to complain. People in power love that shit.

Great article, subscribing to this. I like that it is possible to separate the wheat from the chaff without sounding like a bitter wannabe. Let's be awesome together indeed.

Medical Spanish - Archive of Dialogues with Translations by pon00050in learnspanish

[–]72skylark 0 points1 point ago

All I remember from my days as a medical interpreter is that "Pap Smear" is "Papanicolau" and when referring to a baby's poop (as the doc did) don't translate it as "caca" (closer to "shit"), rather "feces" (same as in English but more common). Can't believe I got $20 an hour to do that back in 1997 after getting a minor in Spanish!

Not that I really give a shit but if you want to split hairs, I was referring to the synth (as referenced by OP), which is named after Bob Moog, so there is in fact one correct pronunciation. I can say from experience that if you go up to a synth player and say "nice Moog" with a "moo" sound, you will sound like a noob. No two ways about it.

I was thinking the same thing. Mother Theresa is the last person I would want teaching my kids. Kids get enough of this bullshit sacrifice-for-the-good-of-the-collective indoctrination as it is.

Unfortunately your rhyme is invalid since Moog is pronounced with a long "o", i.e. it rhymes with "vogue". (Source)

Yep, I know, sounds retarded. You'd have to see the bathroom though, it's a 1920's apartment so it's larger than average with high ceilings. It's not like the phone is getting splashed or there is a ton of steam hanging around.

I watch videos all the time in the shower on my iphone. The steam is probably messing it up but I'm pretty sure it will get lost/dropped/stampeded by buffalo before that becomes a problem.

You have to sell 10,000 copies of Ableton, and make sure to save all the box tops.

No seriously, there's a link in the FAQ about flair- here's the thread they link to.

Should I be concerned? Cable company had installed a filter to block cable from my house, and I tried my cable again last night, and it is back. by dickdrizzlein cordcutters

[–]72skylark 1 point2 points ago

Yeah I've been getting basic plus HBO, Cinemax, TMC, Encore and a whole bunch of other shit ever since I moved in. I figured they were somehow monitoring this shit and would find out but I've been watching for months now and not a peep. Three cheers for ineffectual bureaucracy!!

Yup, I think of it this way- when I wanted to cancel, they made me take two hours out of my day and bring the stupid box back to their "customer service" center. Well, you want me to stop watching all the shit you forgot to unhook, send one of your guys.

We're playing a local stage at a big music festival, what's a unique or fun way to get peoples attention? by viacomain WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]72skylark 5 points6 points ago

Oh, OK, I had a little brain dropping here. Not what you're looking for necessarily, but I've always wanted to use this for a music video: You get an old pair of headphones, take the band off and turn them into defibrillator paddles, just put handles on them, maybe paint them white or beige. Then you can walk around and have people pretend that you're shocking them back to life with your music. I cannot imagine people would not get into that. You could film it and make it into a music video.

sit myself in the sweet spot between the hi-fi speakers (nothing fancy or expensive, just very transparent, neutral ones, not the pre-EQed, "genre specific" crap)

Bro, If you're not using Beats™, you're just not hearing all the music. Sorry.

I got one of these so I could use my laptop on long subway rides. I just loop it around my thigh- if they want the laptop, they are gonna have to drag my ass a considerable distance.

Monsanto maize banned in France. by CrazyDrummerin worldnews

[–]72skylark 0 points1 point ago

As long as you're aware that the healthy skepticism makes drugs significantly more expensive. Yes advertising, attracting talent and of course research make a difference, but compliance with an ever-increasing array of regulations- treating all firms as guilty until proven innocent because of the unscrupulous actions of a few- is a significant component in the high price of drugs. I don't think the average consumer realizes this when they complain about high drug prices.

Honestly as someone who works for Pharma there are just some narratives that take on a life of their own. You get a perfect storm of some retarded pseudo-philosophical trope like "pharma companies profit from suffering!" (no, actually they have to relieve suffering in order to profit, and sometimes not even then), add to that a factual story where a few unscrupulous individuals violated some rules for short-term personal gain and suddenly everyone believes that the pharma industry is worse than hitler.

Kind of a rant, but I can think of so many instances where people just want to believe some evil thing about corporations and they will piece together all kinds of circumstantial BS that would never hold up in a court of law. I think deep down most of us hate how small and insignificant we are in this world and then someone goes "now they are saying they can PATENT GENETIC CODE!!!". It's like that gas station scene in Zoolander.

Ha, ha, would be funnier if he ever smoked weed. Clearly these people didn't watch the video and just assumed if he cares about the injustice and hypocrisy of the drug war he must be high. This is really Idiocracy-level political discourse. Camacho 2014.

It would be cool if they could edit together all the political stuff and put that out once in a while. I started listening a few weeks ago and my gf threatened to throw the radio out the window after sitting through the 30-min intro to (and rather disappointing airing of) the Clay Aiken song.

What's one instance of sexual exploration that you instantly regretted? by InstantPeeRegretin AskReddit

Came in my own mouth, and immediately thought, "Why did I do that? This tastes terrible."

This should be an automatic requirement for any guy who wants his girlfriend to swallow. I'm not making a judgment here one way or another, it's not for everyone. But you better know she ain't doing it cuz it tastes like a vanilla frappuccino.
