They could be microdermals, transdermals or surface piercings, all common in the body modification world. I'm just coming out of the same slump. Which seems to happen on and off. The biggest thing I found to help is to just say FUCK IT. Stop caring about what anyone thinks and do what you want to do and have some 'railking39' time. In saying this, avoid recklessness it can make things worse.

Pick up an old hobby/pastime. Avoid new ones for now, that can get frustrating and you'll wind up even more pissed off.
Go for a few drinks or coffee with close friends.
(As strange as it sounds) Watch a comedy or show/movie and take realistic inspiration from one of your favourite characters.
Get plenty of sleep and eat well, you'll be amazed at how much your mood will improve.

Again, I know how you feel, I have a horrible habit of working my way into these self-loathing slumps and pushing everything away. It just seems like the easiest thing to do at the time. Just remember to jump on those days when you're feeling your best, they will be your key in getting confidence back.
