Any job leads out there? by carmicdyin Maine

[–]0zymandias39 1 point2 points ago

In reverse order:

Yes, I typically have to keep the anti-capitalist swine away from my personal golden urinal, and to do that I must constantly inform them to "despair." This instruction is written on my many mighty works gained from the sweat and tears of the proletariat.

Also, I just happened to hear yesterday that we are indeed developing an internal job posting site (I'm honestly surprised we don't have one already), but for the time being, WYSIWYG in terms of the online job postings. However, that is updated quite regularly (about twice a week, if the HR slaves do their job), so keep on plugging.

Honestly, I started as a standard "customer service rep" level position and I'm currently a salaried bank officer within a year and a half. It's possible to get hired from outside the company into the legal department, but you might be better off putting in time as one of the masses and moving from there. Unless you have any sort of experience or degrees, which you most likely have.

I have a higher-type position with TD Bank, and if you're willing to drive up to Auburn for a job, message me and I'll give you a few more details. I know it's a little bit longer of a drive, but there are a few of us that work for TD in Auburn who live in the Portland area. There are a few specific jobs that might fit for you specifically.

I was in the same place as you in October 2010 - I was a former manager at Panera Bread, and wanted to get out of the food business. The job certainly isn't for EVERYONE, but if you're willing to put in the time and work hard, it's perfect for someone who wants to move up. The bank is expanding like crazy - we hire about 40-50 new people a month (and the turnover is USUALLY people moving to better positions, not negative attrition).

Men: How do you feel about dating a woman who has breasts that are uneven sizes? Dealbreaker? by yeebiancain AskReddit

[–]0zymandias39 -1 points0 points ago

I feel as though it's only a dealbreaker if the woman is completely obsessing over her appearance to the point of worrying about her breasts being uneven. I think the few comments that we're seeing already shows that it's generally known that women will usually have a slight difference in breast size. If a woman isn't confident, usually a guy starts getting into HIS head about how (or if) he is satisfying her.

Just quit today myself, and your post is pretty much my experience as well. I have tried a lot, and failed a bit too. I'm tired of my own excuses, tired of feeling physically and mentally inadequate. I know we both have the strength and the will.

What it's like buying used stuff in Maine by neuromonkeyin Maine

Being from away, I attempted to throw out batteries that had corroded quite badly, and my wife's family asked me to save them for re-use.

At least, I believe that goes to your point.

How much should I spend on a set of snow tires in Canada? by BellevilleBobin Frugal

Maine here. I would recommend buying all four. This is not something you want to be frugal on, as totaling your car is a little more expensive than buying two extra tires. Plus, you can actually make them last long by switching tires promptly at the turn of the seasons.

I found some winter tires on Craigslist, used for 2 months, around 200 US dollars. Shop around, don't buy from the tire store if the prices aren't amazing.

Can I remove the "at the bank's discretion" option regarding overdrafting? Details inside by NeoShweatyin Frugal

Hmmm, I know that with my bank, Reg E is Reg E. If a customer decides that they do not want debit card transactions to post to their account, then it doesn't happen and no fee is charged. I wrote the last comment assuming that Lynda.com was an ACH, but they couldn't possibly put anything through other than a debit card purchase if that's all you gave them. I'd say to make doubly sure that your OD options specifically say that NO debit card purchases are allowed against a negative balance. If Chase persists on "allowing exceptions", then I would suggest finding another bank. Banks can do that, it's not SPECIFICALLY illegal, but it makes me cringe.

And coming from someone in the banking industry, the "talking in circles" thing that you mention is industry standard. 90% of the time we have to do it because people are too dumb to figure out that they spent too much money last weekend. Not in your case obviously - that is a shitty corporate decision. But I think reddit has a little bit of hivemind when it comes to credit unions. They may have "longer leashes" referring to ODs, but they make money too; if you fuck up your bank account enough, it's more than likely worse. The bigger banks will probably just write smaller charged-off accounts (sent to collections) off, I've heard some pretty interesting stories from customers COMING to us from credit unions.

another edit: don't know why reddit isn't allowing me to reply directly to your comment, neo. Consider this......that.

I currently work for a large-ish national bank advising branches on policy and procedure, and I can tell you that it completely depends on how it comes through. If you completely opt-out of overdraft coverage, you still CAN get OD fees - no matter if you're with a credit union or B of A. The key is ACH transactions. There are two kinds of automatic transactions that you mentioned - Netflix is tied to your debit card and Lynda.com sounds like it is tied directly to your routing and account number. In the second case (ACH), due to Federal Banking Regulation E, the banks still have approval to bounce those. It's basically like writing a check in that sense.

So even if you opt COMPLETELY out of Reg E, you still have the consumer's responsibility of not bouncing ACHs, drafts, or checks. Depending on the situation, however, Chase may not be offering to help you to the fullest. All transactions besides paper checks can be disputed; go to Chase and ask to file an ACH dispute (only if the situation warrants it; if Lynda.com shouldn't have been in your account, then by all means dispute it.)

edit: didn't catch the last part, I'm glad the company refunded your money.

tl;dr - Dispute anything you can besides paper checks

Chase just closed my account for no reason after I deposited $1700 and now won't give any back or tell me why! What can I do? by ackzain WTF

I work for a bank currently (I answer any phone calls from all of our branches and help them with any banking questions they may have), and see this all the time. To help the OP, (or anyone else who may be in the situation in the future) this is not fun, but fairly common. I can only speculate, but your deposit of $1700 is a big tip off that the bank wants to verify funds, and that it is a check deposit. When you deposit a check from another bank, regardless of where it says it's from, it exposes the bank to a chance of fraud. 99% of the time, there's not a problem; but if you do not have a history of making a larger deposit or there is reason for the bank to suspect fraud, the check could be placed on a hold. As far as the ridiculous amount of money being held, that's something that customer service or your bank manager can take care of. Someone just messed up putting your check on hold.

To be perfectly honest, the bank receives panic calls from people all the time. Just because your account is overdrawn a silly amount does not mean it's closed. How long has it been since you deposited the money? If it's been 1 or 2 days, sometimes it gets frustrating for us (bank employees) because we WANT to tell you where your money is, but there are NO indications for the first day. So chances are, this is a knee-jerk, albeit understandable, reaction that will get cleared up in the next day or two (or at least you'll get some answers).

edit- I just read everything, now I think you're one of my customers who panics for no good reason. I TRY to help you, but no. "OMG U TOOK ALL MAH MONEYS! I'M THREATENING TO LEAVE MY BANK AND TAKE MY $300! I'M SURE YOU DON'T WANT TO LOOSE MY BUSINESSES!"

I hate those people. I try to be the anti-banker (actually personable), and since they have their hackles raised, ready for a fight, they don't understand what I'm actually doing for them. You deserve to have some panic, you mouth-breathing button masher.

Fiancee's car blew up and we're getting "the runaround"... reddit, what do we do? by 0zymandias39in AskReddit

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Kinda wanted to see what kind of deal we could get, we found out that they fired the mechanic who worked on the car, it's a fairly big dealership. And as far as lawyering up, the problem there is that we live in Maine, and she kind of NEEDS a car. If we get a lawyer, a lawsuit could take several years, and MAYBE will succeed, if we have a good case. Good advice, nonetheless.

That's the difficult thing - the issue itself is not the car being destroyed, it's the slimy feeling that we get when we're being "sold" to. If we've agreed to an insurance settlement, is there more that a lawyer could do? I mean, I'm posting on reddit to see if we even HAVE a case that we could bring to a lawyer.

I'm guessing the right corner of the 'A' might be some kind of sneaky L4D-smoker-type thing. Perhaps a fake health pack or ammo that traps the victim? Dunno what class it would be for, though... spy, I suppose.
