covering real estate there's DC Mud, UrbanTurf, and Frozen Tropics

A few from my RSS reader are defunct, so this what I read that still posts content:

  • DC Rock Live - terrific, succinct reviews of small indie shows

  • DC Wire - Washington Post's feed of local content, with a focus on city politics

  • Frozen Tropics - H Street focused

  • Greater Greater Washington - Armchair urbanist blog

  • Housing Complex - City Paper's blog on real estate and architecture

  • Loose Lips - City Paper's blog on local politics

  • We Love DC - Nice blog about nice things in DC

I also follow Brightest Young Things, the nightlife/hipster blog.

Seconding We Love DC. That blog is the reason why my friends think I'm a professional tourist, yet still know cool things that are more local like the H Street Festival.

I had never been to Brightest Young Things because of its hipster reputation.

I just checked it out and it's like the creators thought: "You know what was awesome about Vice Magazine? How they totally got over the whole counterculture thing and moved on to hipsterdom. Let's just bypass that whole beginning part and go full hipster."

Your use of a colon really confused me for some reason. Anyway,

Let's just bypass that whole beginning part and go full hipster.

I have no idea what that means.

When it started, Vice magazine used to be about skateboarding, drugs, heavy metal, etc. with some "fashion" that was mostly making fun of people wearing ridiculous things. At some point it got bought out by American Apparel or something and now is basically the hipster newsletter.

Brightest Young Things looks pretty much like a Vice clone circa 2012.

So your issue is that both BYT and Vice focus too much on fashion? I can see that, I guess. Both outlets put out solid editorial content, although the former does not have the resources of the latter.

Fashion, flavor of the week bands that aren't that good, trendy "exclusive" events like warehouse parties and pop up restaurants that make people feel special because they know about something that others supposedly don't. That kind of stuff.

I'm not saying either is a bad publication, or that people with that lifestyle are wrong, it's just not something that interests me at all.

Also I'm bitter because the old Vice magazine was a great bathroom read and now it really is just a 100 page ad for American Apparel, though their documentaries are still pretty decent.

Just a couple off the top of my head: Metrocurean.com - Covering the DC food scene. Borderstan.com - Covers everything Dupont, Logan Circle, and U St. DC.Eater.com - More food scene stuff

Also check out nationwide websites like Thrillist and Urbandaddy's DC pages and subscribe to get daily emails about new stuff going on in DC.

PrinceOfPetworth and DCist are probably my favorite local DC blogs, but I'm a little overwhelmed by the "Frozen Yogurt Shop" and "pictures of your pet" reports...

I stopped following most DC blogs because they started making me hate white people. That's a good list you have so far though, most of the knowledgeable sources of info are contained in this thread.

Add People's District to your list though. Not for events, but for...you know, people.

No mention of the Capital Weather Gang yet? It is very in depth and I've found it to be very accurate, too. You'll learn a lot about the weather by reading it.

UnsuckDCMetro is my favorite, followed by dcist. I just moved into the Atlas district, so I'm pretty big on Frozen Tropics and H st Great Steet, too.
