I was hoping that Tebow would touch Cutler and Forte, healing their injuries instantly.

[–]shun-16 82 points83 points ago

This is real life Angels in the Outfield type stuff.

Though I'm a Packers fan, they do seem scripted as the perfect storybook villain this season

[–]Drunken_Economist 6 points7 points ago

Hate to break it to you, but you would be the villain in this story.

[–]endrbn 7 points8 points ago

yep, they are the mighty ducks, Packers are Iceland.

[–]coming_up_milhouse 41 points42 points ago

I find it more impressive how teams keep handing games to the Broncos. Marion Barber literally gave Denver the ball twice when they had no business touching it again. It was kind of miraculous.

[–]myemailiscool 20 points21 points ago

exactly. tebow didn't win the game, chicago lost it.

[–]chaze52 22 points23 points ago

I would say it was a little of both. Barber gave them the chances, and Tebow and Prater got the job done.

[–]coming_up_milhouse 6 points7 points ago

How badly do you think the Bears wanted Cutler in that fourth quarter when they couldn't get a first down? I kept picturing a dejected Bears fan quietly singing this to himself with tears streaming down his face.

[–]puckyou 4 points5 points ago

As a Bears fan I can confirm that's how I felt except I was also praying for time to expire.

[–]fliphopanonymous 4 points5 points ago

Never pray against Tebow.

[–]Angry_Caveman_Lawyer 1 point2 points ago

I spent the whole time waiting for the fuck up.

Sadly, that's the only aspect of the game I wasn't disappointed in.

NE is going to slaughter the Broncos next week.

[–]dominicaldaze 0 points1 point ago

I really hope so as a pats fan, but NE looked pretty bad vs washington yesterday. They really have to do better on D, and Denver's style of offense could trip them up in the 4th quarter. I just hope Belichik has enough tape on Tebow by now to plan for him.

[–]HeroicGomez 2 points3 points ago

If the Bears had a better QB than Caleb Hainie this game is probably a walkover win for the Bears.

[–]coming_up_milhouse 0 points1 point ago

Obviously. If Cutler and Forte were playing in this game, it would not have been 10-0 in the 4th.

However, if it was, I'm thinking Martz wouldn't have gone super conservative in the 4th and the Bears would have been able to get a first down or two. I'm also thinking Forte wouldn't run out of bounds or fumble in OT if it got to that point.

I'm not a Bears fan by any means but I feel really bad for them if they don't make the playoffs. They were heating up when Cutler got hurt and that really killed their season. This is legitimately a good team (though that secondary needs to improve).

[–]Phantoom 1 point2 points ago

Most of the games, I think the Broncos do a good job of putting themselves in a position to win, but this game was definitely lost. If the Bears had kneeled three times and punted, they win.

Still, it just makes it all the more fun. Almost every week I say, "not gonna happen this week..."

[–]bananapanther 0 points1 point ago

Broncos D deserves some of the credit. They pushed him out of bounds and stripped the ball. It's not like Barber purposefully ran out or dropped the ball on his own.

[–]coming_up_milhouse 0 points1 point ago

They absolutely do. They didn't allow a first down in the 4th, I believe, and it was a good play to strip the ball in OT (though Barber didn't really secure it).

In fact, I'd say the Bronco's D deserves most of the credit for their last 7 wins. They have been shutting down most of their opposition (granted, against pretty bad offences) and keeping it very close until the end of the game.

And I refuse to accept the argument that because it was the same defence when Orton was playing, the difference is solely Tebow. Look at the difference in point total given up and the statistical difference. The defence has played far better and their opposition has been far worse. (I'm not saying you are making this argument bananapanther, just wanted to make this point)

[–]mrgatorboy 88 points89 points ago

"The Broncos win again! Thank you Lord for inexplicably caring about my boyfriend Tim Tebow more than Malaria victims in Mozambique!"

-Cousin Sal on the Bill Simmons podcast

edit: this quote is funnier if you consider the context of Cousin Sal doing his weekly impression of Bill Simmons leaving Sal a voicemail that he never remembers leaving. If you don't listen to that podcast, you should start to.

[–]LeafsFanWest 69 points70 points ago

Great OT field goal by Denver, although I thought it was overkill the way the ball turned into a loaf of bread on the way down!

-DownGoesBrown

[–]shiftyeyedgoat 79 points80 points ago

They tried to pour gatorade onto Tebow, but it turned into wine.

[–]textbandit 0 points1 point ago

would not surprise me - I've watched football my entire life and it was literally a "Miracle in Mile High"

[–]dandaman352 0 points1 point ago

Maybe he deserves it more, he is god's son remember.

[–]past_is_prologue -1 points0 points ago

I've grown tired of the fake Simmons voicemail bit. It was funny at first, but now it seems really forced.

[–]oryano 2 points3 points ago

Cousin Sal...sports guy here...

How could you not love that. I love it.

[–]Phantoom 1 point2 points ago

I actually think it has become funnier as Sal has run out of ideas.

[–]xcrouton 1 point2 points ago

It's my favorite part of every podcast. The voice alone has me cracking up.

[–]lookyhere 47 points48 points ago

All right - the Broncos are going all the way to the Pray-offs.

[–]theyhadnodunks 47 points48 points ago

I know that's a joke about Tebow and religion, but pray-offs still sounds like an asian person saying playoffs.

[–]iamyaM 10 points11 points ago

I heard it in the voice of Kim Jong Il in Team America.

[–]bitchkat 0 points1 point ago

Prayoffs? Don't talk about prayoffs. I just hope we can win a game.

[–][deleted] 47 points48 points ago

"PRAY-OFFS!!!?

-Jim Jong Morra Il

[–]Stalked_Like_Corn 1 point2 points ago

Holy fuck i laughed too much on this one. I was watching something on ESPN the other day (NFL Live? I forget) and they had a piece about that after game press conference and he said he was tired of that and people having him try to say it. Imagine my surprise today when watching football i see him in a beer commercial spouting the line.

[–]redhatnation 50 points51 points ago

Something is afoot. I've never seen a starting QB with such shitty form...yet he keeps winning games. The game where he threw just two completions the ENTIRE FUCKING GAME blew my mind.

Fortunately, he's thrown a few more times in tonight's game - 21/40.

Tim Tebow for 2011 Troll of the Year.

[–]Viviparous 37 points38 points ago

Tim Tebow is definitely the best NFL troll I have ever seen...

Trolls opposing defenses for 3 quarters to lull them into a false sense of security, but doesn't let the game get so out of hand that it's unwinnable.

Then starts picking it up in 4Q and tears down the opposing team's dreams and aspirations.

But today was totally luck. Or epic trolling.

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points ago

Don't forget an EPIC leg on the Bronco's kicker. Two deep kicks under incredible pressure.

[–]r4dius 22 points23 points ago

Yeah he deserved way more credit from the broadcast team

[–]Viviparous 8 points9 points ago

Prater deserved a lot of the credit, but the kicker position is way less dynamic. You make a 45 yarder? You're doing your job. Miss a 30 or make a 60 and you're under / over performing, but there isn't a lot of room for variation. The only room for scrutiny comes from kicking a ball once every X plays. You miss the FG by a foot or shank it, you're scrutinized the same amount.

QB makes many more decisions and there is a much greater margin of error on every play.

[–]wtf-banelings 6 points7 points ago

I agree with you on every point except the shank it vs barely missing it. When someone completely blows the kick they get so much more shit than dinging it off of a goalpost.

[–]HeroicGomez 1 point2 points ago

In altitude. Jason Elam used to nail 55 yarders like they were nothing at home when he kicked for Denver.

[–]ArmorMog 7 points8 points ago

I wouldn't be surprised if Tebow just does nothing until the 4th quarter, then actually tries when the defense is too exhausted to make it to the sidelines to switch out.

[–]mags87 5 points6 points ago

I think that he doesn't do well with a gameplan but when it's time to just "make something happen" he can do that

[–]mrdm242 10 points11 points ago

When Ali did it, it was called "rope-a-dope."

Personally, I think Tebow is a pretty crappy quarterback. HOWEVER, he happens to do well against teams when they get all conservative and play prevent defense at the end of the game. They start playing zone instead of man-to-man trying not to give up the big play. This is where Tebow can actually complete passes instead of bootlegging every play. If teams would simply play him as hard as they normally would the first three quarters, the Broncos would have a far worse record than they do now.

[–]beansauce 11 points12 points ago

I may not believe in god, but i definitely believe in Mr. Tim Tebow.

[–]klngarthur 14 points15 points ago

Keaton always said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him." Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Tim Tebow.

[–]morrison0880 5 points6 points ago

Then he showed those men of football what football really was.

[–]wckb -4 points-3 points ago

Well good, wait for his teams to stop carrying him and then watch the L's start rolling in. Do you perchance think w/l is a good pitching statistic?

[–]eric1983 0 points1 point ago

Yes, why should his teammates work hard to win a game if Tebow isn't a perfect QB?

[–]wckb 0 points1 point ago

That isn't what im saying. What im saying is whenever the opposing teams dont have an off day or his defense doesnt carry him, he cant win the game by himself. He cant carry a team a la peyton manning or tom brady. He can only squeak out wins provided to him.

[–]Nerdlinger 12 points13 points ago

Fortunately, he's thrown a few more times in tonight's game - 21/40.

After starting out 2/15.

[–]PilgrimB 20 points21 points ago

He was something like 18/24 in the 4th quarter and overtime, which is pretty damn efficient.

[–]otatop 1 point2 points ago

If we could combine him and LeBron James, we just might have somebody who can go full on an entire game!

[–]dichloroethane 3 points4 points ago

[–]wckb 0 points1 point ago

Doesn't help half of those throws were to recievers with no one within 5 yards.

[–]mags87 2 points3 points ago

[–]KuDeGraw 0 points1 point ago

Ya, throwing those 5 yard checkdowns versus prevent defense sure is hard.

[–]IceBreak 6 points7 points ago

Kyle Orton went 1-4.

[–]happyphilter 1 point2 points ago

Especially considering some bad drops...

[–]akula 0 points1 point ago

Wait wut? TT is the only QB that has to deal with drops?

[–]IceBreak 4 points5 points ago

Some are worse than others and there was a ton. I'm not saying he's not a shit QB, but when the one dude with 3 bad drops made that crazy catch it's like...'are you guys just fucking with us?'

[–]witac 2 points3 points ago

3/16.....as in John 3:16

Coincidence or Intelligent Design of Statistics?

[–]phamuraix 4 points5 points ago

I think my vote for troll of the year would be David Stern.

[–]adremeaux 1 point2 points ago

Fortunately, he's thrown a few more times in tonight's game - 21/40.

Yep. 3/16 in the first three quarters for 45 yards, then 18/24 in the 4th quarter + OT for another 180. wtf is the deal? Can someone figure out Tebow's QB rating in the first three quarters vs his QB rating in the final one? I bet it looks something like 30 vs 120.

[–]scottishfinn 3 points4 points ago

According to ESPN, he has a 109.6 passer rating in the 4th quarter, compared to 82.8 in the first, 56.3 in the second, and 90.1 in the third. He has more passing yards in the 4th quarter than the other three quarters combined.

Source.

[–]adremeaux 0 points1 point ago

Hmm, not bad, that includes a bunch of games from last year, though. I'd like to see it just for the past 7 games.

[–]dasbearjew -2 points-1 points ago

[–]redhatnation 8 points9 points ago

He's gonna be laughing all the way to the Pro Bowl. I'd bet money on that.

[–]Nemesis427 31 points32 points ago

Take that r/athiesm!!

[–]mr6275 13 points14 points ago

Folks who are spouting off about Tebow's success have failed to notice the immense improvement in Denver's defense. All of Tebow's work is useless unless the Bronco defense keeps them in the game.

[–]Phantoom 4 points5 points ago

This is actually not true. FO did a great breakdown of Denver's defense, which has showed only a slight improvement in the post Tebow era:

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-ratings/2011/week-12-dvoa-ratings

[–]ImSean 1 point2 points ago

Good link. The same defense that is playing now is the one that went 1-4 under Orton.

[–]irish711 -3 points-2 points ago

I find it amusing that people don't see that the guy is a glorified Dilfer. Just don't lose the game, and the defense will take care of the rest... and Prater.

[–]sgreenha 2 points3 points ago

aka Alex Smith 2k11

[–]Phantoom 1 point2 points ago

The problem with this is that Tebow is asked to not lose the game, and then go win the game in the 4th quarter. Dilfer usually milked leads, and rarely lead double digit fourth quarter comebacks.

[–]kukukele 21 points22 points ago

No surprise that his kicker's name is a hybrid of "Prayer" and "Fate"

[–]krizutch 3 points4 points ago

Hmmm.. I would say his name is more of a hybrid of "Pray" and "Hater"

[–]tphollingsworth 0 points1 point ago

no his name isn't Fayer...ohhhh

[–]Subdural 10 points11 points ago

My next tattoo is going to be Tebow in his broncos uniform giving the heisman to a girl walking towards a planned parenthood.

[–]btmalon 3 points4 points ago

Tim Jennings is a worse cornerback than Tebow is a good quarterback.

[–]endrbn 0 points1 point ago

Jennings is hit or miss. He is good in coverage, but somtimes gets left alone on an island, and he is no Revis. though he may think he is.

[–]bmbleb 1 point2 points ago

I think he paid all the experts after he left college to tell everyone they could that he couldn't play QB in the NFL just so we could all claim him to be a Jesus/Elway hybrid...I'm on to you Tebow

[–]yrogerg123 8 points9 points ago

There is something happening in Denver. I'm not comfortable saying it's god. I do believe that Tebow has absolute belief both in god and his ability to be an NFL quarterback. And that absolute belief is infectious. Tebow believes completely that he will lead his team to victory, his team sees that and believes him, and they play harder. You can see that the Broncos on defense just play harder than pretty much any other team. That coupled with above average talent and a belief that they will not lose makes them extremely hard to beat.

And then Tebow just dominates in the last five minutes of games despite being terrible in the first 55. That I simply can't explain. The rest makes sense to me.

[–]noPENGSinALASKA 7 points8 points ago

Tebow sucks for 55 minutes of the game, then suddenly dominates!

You can't explain that!

[–]yrogerg123 6 points7 points ago

Fucking Tebow, how does he work?

Tim Tebow. Checkmate atheists.

[–]AthenaQ 2 points3 points ago

You nailed it perfectly, and his domination of the last five minutes is because the opposing team's defense is tired at that point, both physically and mentally.

[–]too_cool 0 points1 point ago

Tebow learned that strategy from Rocky V.

[–]JubeltheBear 0 points1 point ago*

As far as the Bears game, I think it's less exhaustion on the Bears defense than Tebow's receivers finally catching passes. Oh and Marion Barber running out of bounds when they coulda ran the damn clock out...

As far as the Jets game, Rex Ryan called an 8 man blitz on the last play with no contain to the outside... that was just retarded.

[–]Throwaway1Trillion 0 points1 point ago

Why isn't Tebow mentally and physically tired? And what about the Denver defense? They are phenomenal and do not seem to lose much stamina near the end of the game.

[–]textbandit 0 points1 point ago

it doesn't make sense because it is divine freaking intervention - it has to be, come on, Barber runs and stops the clock, Prater kicks it 59 yards, Barber fumbles, there is too much luck in there...has to be something else, especially when you consider this luck has happened in the last few minutes of nearly EVERY game

[–]yrogerg123 0 points1 point ago

Individual men can't play above or below what is expected, and teams can't do the same, without god stepping in? Come on.

What, does god tune in to every single game with five minutes left and "say oh my god Tebow's gonna lose! Can't let that happen" and then change the outcome?

[–]lbr218 2 points3 points ago

[–]Allurex 1 point2 points ago

I was really hoping it was real.

David Stern canceled the trade and now Chris Paul isn't coming to LA :(

[–]JokingJaded 2 points3 points ago

Broncos vs. Packers Super Bowl 46!

David vs. Goliath!

I just threw up.

[–]lichnor 1 point2 points ago

Tebow = Robert Johnson

[–]themoop78 1 point2 points ago

I'm anxious to see what he starts saying about Jesus when he starts losing.

[–]Stalked_Like_Corn 18 points19 points ago

He's actually came out and said that he doesn't actually believe God is helping him win the games and that God is not just divining a win for him. It's silly that people still make fun of this guy because of his faith. The guy wins and has sloppy fucking mechanics and the only thing people can make fun of him on is his beliefs.

[–]srs_house 8 points9 points ago

No, people make fun of him based on his mechanics, too. It's just that God is the only logical answer for how he's 7-1.

[–]TheSmart1 2 points3 points ago

God is the only logical answer

This is the only situation in the history of forever where that reasoning is completely acceptable.

[–]skeener 8 points9 points ago

Have you not been paying attention since he was at UF?

[–]krizutch 1 point2 points ago

Did he do a lot of losing there? I don't seem to remember that. Ill have to check to see what he said after those 2 losses.

[–]illstealurcandy 2 points3 points ago

I think this is what he did

[–]erizzluh 0 points1 point ago

Well Tebow isn't going to lose anytime soon, because God wants his Superbowl ring.

[–]Ranger33 4 points5 points ago

I doubt he will cause any conversions (well, the season isn't over) but it's pretty crazy how a search of the word "Tebow" will reveal that 3/4 of the posts are from /r/atheism. Mocking him during the week, raging on Sunday night. I love it.

[–]zgh5002 7 points8 points ago

There are way more on r/NFL. Every other post is Tebow.

[–]krizutch 0 points1 point ago

That brings my reasons up to 1. I am a UGA and Chiefs fan.

[–]TerribleButcher 3 points4 points ago

God to the sick, the meek, the poor: "Go fuck yourselves, I got a football game to fix."

[–]skeener 8 points9 points ago

You have heard Tebow say that he doesn't think God cares about who wins a football game, right?

[–]TerribleButcher 0 points1 point ago

You listen to what athletes say? Why, do you think those Broadcasting degrees are hard to earn?

[–]skeener 0 points1 point ago

Isn't this whole conversation about listening to what Tebow is saying? Do you think religion would be part of this conversation if he was just squeaking out wins and not talking about God?

[–]sox406 1 point2 points ago

Coming up after the game: Tebow walks on water.

[–]jnphoto 1 point2 points ago

I'm pretty sure he's a witch.

[–]Scruge 2 points3 points ago

i got better

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

It's making me more firm in my belief that sports "experts" are all full of shit.

[–]mikejcat13 0 points1 point ago

This is the funniest headline I've ever read on this website.

[–]JokesNRiddles 0 points1 point ago

So if Tebow never wins games, it's just that everyone loses to him?

Except my Lions. (Go Lions!)

[–]krizutch 0 points1 point ago

I sure hope there aren't any believers in god on these teams they are playing then.

[–]shmishshmorshin 0 points1 point ago

I started saying this a few weeks as a joke, but the more that the Broncos win, it becomes less funny and more eerie.

[–]Kinglink 0 points1 point ago

Does scoring one touchdown make you believe in god?

Take religion out of the equation does scoring a touch down a game make a "great player'. Does having a 50 percent passing rating make a great player?

Or does playing generally bad teams (with the exception of the Jets.. that was a miracle) or at least generally low scoring teams make you believe in god? Or having the other teams quarterbacks get injured?

The patriots aren't a great defense, but I will say if the patriots lose to the Broncos I'll definitely second guess this. however I see tebow getting his 2 tds, but Brady getting 4-5.

I'm sorry, but I just don't accept "divine intervention" when the only change is you dropped a QB who could throw the ball, and instead took a QB who has bad completion percentage, good rushing yards, and a single or double TD each week? Wouldn't God's chosen one be able to complete amazing passes?

[–]Swook 0 points1 point ago

Came in here to say I heard a thing on NPRs program called Radio lab about how people who lie to themselves are more likely to succeed. As in, if you're a track runner, and you dont walk onto the track believing that you're the best god damned runner on the face of the earth, you probably wont succeed.

If Tebow is playing football honestly believing god has his back and that hes unstoppable because of it, hes going to do well.

[–]mtheory007 0 points1 point ago

Is that you Jebus?

[–]TheoreticalFunk 0 points1 point ago

The title to OP username ratio of this post makes me lulz.

[–]eric1983 1 point2 points ago

I think it's Wayyyy_Too_Soon for us to be saying that.

[–]GrAy_F0xxx -1 points0 points ago

He's a terrible quarterback. But his defense and other player's mistakes, Marion Barber, is why they keep winning.

[–]technosaur 21 points22 points ago

He is not a terrible quarterback. He runs like a fullback and passes like a defensive tackle. That does not make him a terrible quarterback. Not getting the job done would make him a terrible quarterback.

[–]srs_house -2 points-1 points ago

OK, then this: he isn't an NFL-caliber (read: franchise player) QB, and he isn't an all-star fullback. With him you get a guy who can run better than most QBs and throw better than most FBs.

[–]Throwaway1Trillion 1 point2 points ago

He runs better than some fullbacks. He gets up to full speed really quickly and makes very good decisions when he runs.

[–]chaze52 6 points7 points ago

I think 'terrible quarterback' is an exaggeration... He has 2 interceptions for the year, runs like a beast, and he is 7-1 as a starter this year.

[–]GrAy_F0xxx 0 points1 point ago

I don't think it is. The Bronco's are running a full game wildcat play style, and it's working for now. But 5 of those 7 wins came on teams with losing records, or QB issues (Bears). We'll see how he plays next week against the Patriots.

[–]Donitsu 2 points3 points ago

The Wildcat is a formation. The read-option is an entire offense, there's literally a world of difference between the two. The Option has been a viable college offense for over 70 years, longer than the NFL popular throw-happy offense has existed. It's not as if the Option appeared overnight.

[–]gerbs 1 point2 points ago

Qb and Rb issues.

Do people seriously think it's miraculous he beat the Vikings, one of the top five worst pass defenses in the history of football who are currently sitting at 2-10?

They will be slaughtered in the playoffs.

[–]Scruge 1 point2 points ago

seriously, as far as i can tell, they've played one good team with tebow, the Lions, and we all know how that went.

[–]Erickj 1 point2 points ago

As a Patriots fan, oh shit....

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]hamhead 9 points10 points ago

Nobody will jump off the Tebow train because they lose to the Patriots, unless it's entirely embarrassing.

[–]muzik4life92 0 points1 point ago

This sounds more like a first world problem than a sports headline.

[–]I_SHIT_ON_CATS 1 point2 points ago

I really don't see what is so hard to believe about a dude that knows how to win football games, winning football games. He's working in a system that he knows how to run, his defense keeps him in games, then he puts his team in a position to win...

[–]wakeentry 2 points3 points ago

Agreed, but did you see this game? That fumble in OT was especially... I guess I want to say the result of divine intervention. I (as a die-hard Broncos fan) can't believe it. It almost makes you think that there was some sort of "Holy spirt" watching over them.

[–]I_SHIT_ON_CATS 2 points3 points ago

Why would a holy spirit give two shits if Tim Tebow wins a football game...

[–]wakeentry 1 point2 points ago

I know right. He must be the second coming of Christ. I'm glad we see eye to eye on this one.

[–]tomot 2 points3 points ago

Sweet baaaaaaby Tebow!

[–]kstat13 1 point2 points ago

I thought this very thing at an [8] last week. Absolutely incredible.

[–]hindesky 0 points1 point ago

We all know the Tebow prays harder/more than the competition, and that god picks favorites in the various sporting events, why is this even questioned? Non believers must be heretics/satan lovers.

I sincerely believe that favorable variance from the expected statistical outcome is a more plausible explanation for the Broncos winning than Tebow actually being a good quarterback.

This win was 100% field goals. And I love (hate) how people on the Tebow bandwagon refuse to call him lazy for not doing the work needed in the FIRST 3 quarters. He's like the anti-Lebron, instead of not giving you the fourth quarter, it's ALL he gives.

I don't think its divin intervention as much as confidence of his team in him...and his knack for winning!!!

Here is what I wrote... http://tkcsports.wordpress.com/2011/12/12/tebowmania-broncos-come-from-behind-again/

dude, if you are going to cover sports, you got to go deeper than that - this string is just out of the ballpark as a far as anything we've ever seen before....

Thanks man! I will def add more stats and numbers.

I can't believe this run! Tebow truly is giving the Broncos a chance to win every week! It is a lot of fun to watch.

Tebow won't be in God's good graces once God figures out Tebow broke up Tom and Lindsey's marriage.

I thought this was a first world problem.
