Jimmy Bullard. Not sure I'd class him as mediocre, though. Solid player and funny as fuck.

[–]Sunderlandf1manoz 3 points4 points ago

Think he would have gone on to even better things if not for blowing his knees out.

[–]AfterrGlow 5 points6 points ago

He could of being playing in the Premiership if he wasn't a greedy twat. A good player no doubt and a funny character, but there's other sides to his personality which has put me off him.

[–]Philadelphia UnionSober_Irishman 2 points3 points ago

Fulham supporter here. And I miss him a little bit. Although I've had friends whove met him and they don't have anything nice to say about him.

[–]EnglandBumScruples 17 points18 points ago

Grant Holt! He's just a massive bloke who shunts the ball into the net, it's brilliant. Also, this Straqualursi feller seems to have the right attitude and work rate, decent signing.

[–]Spainplecoptera19 9 points10 points ago

I like him because every time he scores, I only think of this

[–]Norwich Cityicehockeyhair 5 points6 points ago

Holt is deceptively skillful. Look at his goal against Everton, for example. Yes he has had his share of "bundling" goals, but he does have more to his game.

[–]EnglandBumScruples 3 points4 points ago

No you're right, he's quality on the ball too. It's just great to see that 'battering ram' build of striker back in the Prem, shakes things up a bit. Get him on that plane.

[–]Velež Mostarsarmatron 1 point2 points ago

It's really weird to see when he bumbles over to the byline, looking like he's going to lose control of the ball every second, and then delivers an inch-perfect cross.

[–]Arsenalmartin8289 60 points61 points ago

Eboue. Because Eboue.

[–]BarcelonaTheBogeyMan 6 points7 points ago

[–]Arsenalflaminghatsonfire 9 points10 points ago

[–]ArsenalRonaldoNazario 2 points3 points ago

I've only come [to this thread] to see Eboue!

[–]Newcastle UnitedMokoba 18 points19 points ago

Shola. He's kinda crap but he's got an amazing scoring record against sunderland but the best thing is his loyalty and professionalism. Never hear anything about him doing stupid shit, never hear him moaning about a new contract. When it came to him signing a new contract this summer the club offered one and he said "cool" and signed it.

His loyalty and professionalism is something sadly missing from today's game.

[–]Newcastle Unitedverytallperson 9 points10 points ago

Plus he FUCKING SCORED AT THE NOU CAMP.

[–]SholaAmeobi 7 points8 points ago

Thanks man. I preferred Carl Cort.

[–]Newcastle Unitedbeatski 5 points6 points ago

Same guy according to Sir Bobby

[–]Leicester Citykrisashmore 3 points4 points ago

What is it with Newcastle fans and Shola?

[–]Newcastle UnitedJimmySinner 10 points11 points ago

He's a local lad who has spent his entire career at the club he loves. He's not a great player but he always turns it on for derby games, and he's just a thoroughly lovely bloke.

[–]Newcastle UnitedMrPigger 7 points8 points ago

He's like a mascot... a special needs puppy.

I want to be angry at him for missing that sitter. I want to call him all the names under the sun for never moving faster than a snail but I can't. He;s just too damn cute!!!

<3 Shola

[–]SunderlandKhathaar 4 points5 points ago

I'm a Sunderland guy and even i like Shola. I shouldn't, but there's just something really likeable about the guy.

[–]Evertonflogasman 14 points15 points ago*

Tony Hibbert. Forged a decent premier league career despite the fact all he can do well is the occasional good slide tackle!

[–]EvertonFistanditilus 7 points8 points ago

And the fact that he has never scored. I suspect the city will burn down the day he does.

[–]Republic of Irelandbuttplugsforlife 1 point2 points ago

He played brilliantly against City the other week. One of those players your never hear about but always puts in a shift.

[–]Minnesota Stars FCSteasy66 1 point2 points ago

I have to tip my hat to Hibbo as well. Even Howard scored before him.

[–]Manchester Unitedpsvvivek 27 points28 points ago

Three lungs Park , Enough Said

[–]themanguydude 19 points20 points ago

He's an unsung hero, but he's hardly mediocre.

[–]Manchester UnitedJMunn21 3 points4 points ago

No the most politically correct but he is in fact a Sung Hero but yeah you're right mostly just by us. But i'm sure Arsenal fans are aware of him now...

[–]B1gJ0hn 2 points3 points ago

he is a sung hero... a ji sung hero!

[–]Manchester Unitedteh-dudenator 2 points3 points ago

Saw this in person. I cheered my ass off :D

[–]ChelseaGeneralGreens 1 point2 points ago

Came here to say this. Ji Sung muh'fuckin Park

[–]Czech RepublicZ_Z_T 26 points27 points ago

Tomas Rosicky

[–]Germanyhansibit 8 points9 points ago

I was heartbroken when he left Dortmund, nice to see him in this list!

[–]The NetherlandsImmanuelXavier 6 points7 points ago

He used to be so damned good. Injuries man smh

[–]FunFrock 4 points5 points ago

Classiest football on the planet.

[–]Arsenalsaintlawrence 2 points3 points ago

Sometimes I watch his WC highlights, those artillery-shots for goals, and wonder what could've been.

[–]FunFrock 1 point2 points ago

Euro 2004... Best team in the tournament by far... Yet another reason to unashamedly abuse the Greeks!

He and Hleb were such an awesome pairing for the wide roles, really knew how to stretch the defence out and support the central midfielders at the same time.

[–]Englandcjhazza 10 points11 points ago

Mark Noble. The epitome of not living up to your talent but still manages to do a good job for us. Cracking Penalty taker also.

[–]West Ham UnitedRugbystudent 2 points3 points ago

Always thought he would make the next step up but unfortunately hasn't. Still a cracking Championship player and great squad player for a lower half Prem club. Also seems like a true professional, gets his head down and works, never complains and seems like an all round good egg!

[–]EnglandBobius 12 points13 points ago

Ali Dia!

[–]Liverpoolgingerbreaduncle 8 points9 points ago

Igor Biscan. He was clumsy, couldn't control the ball and always look like he just woke up.

But he has a champions league medal. His contribution in the miracle run to Istanbul will be fondly remembered.

[–]Lincoln CityEepyDee 15 points16 points ago

Don't blame it on the Biscan, Don't blame it on the Hamann, Don't blame it on the Finnan, Blame it on Traore, He just can't, He just can't, He just can't control his feet.

[–]LiverpoolNiqulaz 5 points6 points ago

Whenever I start feeling a bit down in the dumps about the state of the team, I just remember that we managed to win the Champions League with Traore as our left back and Morientes as our striker.

[–]Deckasef 1 point2 points ago

Morientes was cuptied when we won the CL. And he was also a very good striker prior to joining Liverpool

[–]blanco_nino 1 point2 points ago

'He's so gangly and cack and he plays at the back it'sss Traore.'

[–]Borussia Dortmundnot_the_droids 9 points10 points ago

"our" Dede, wonderful 12 Years

[–]Borussia DortmundSpocky 1 point2 points ago

Yes!

[–]New England Revolutionspit334 8 points9 points ago

I think our collective measurement of "mediocre" is skewed.

[–]LiverpoolNiqulaz 29 points30 points ago

Peter Crouch.

I just love to see him do step-overs with those gangly pipe-cleaners he's got for legs. Also, despite being little but skin and bones and looking ready to snap like a twig any moment, he's just about never injured.

[–]Detroit City FCswi55mike 1 point2 points ago

Remember I really did love my gf when I asked her who her favorite player was and she said her and her mom just adore Peter Crouch. Being a tall gangly man myself it all made sense lol.

[–]Derby CountyEddie_The_Brewer 7 points8 points ago

Steve Powell.

He captained England Schoolboys back in the early 1970's and made his debut for Derby at the age of 16. One of his first games was the final match of the 1971/72 football season when Derby County needed to beat Liverpool to stand a chance of winning the First Division Championship (now the Prem, of course).

Early in the game, there was a 50:50 ball, and Steve went flying in to challenge none other than Tommy Smith, Liverpool legend. The precocious schoolboy just waltzed away with the ball whilst Smith was flattened. The packed Baseball Ground loved it.

A few minutes later, another confrontation - this time with Emlyn Hughes - same result. The Liverpool and England legend was flattened, the kid strolled away with the ball.

Derby won the game 1:0 with a goal by John McGovern, Liverpool only drew their final game of the season at Arsenal and Leeds lost to Wolves. The Rams had their first League Championship title and the legend that was Brian Clough was born.

Steve played for Derby for his entire career, retiring in 1985 after playing 352 games.

By the standards applied by some modern plastic fans who look at a club's trophy cabinet before they decide THAT's who they want to support, Steve fits the bill as a 'mediocre player'.

By the standards I apply, having been a supporter of Derby County for more than 50 years, Steve Powell is a true legend.

[–]Chelseadm42 7 points8 points ago

Rory Fallon, tremendously average player who spent half a season missing open goals for Swansea then scored this goal in a play-off final.

[–]Club Bruggemajestic7 2 points3 points ago

He also scored the goal that took New Zealand to the 2010 World Cup

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no56tzjE1lc

[–]Barnsleyhipsterslut 1 point2 points ago

He used to play for us aswell, he never showed he was capable of doing something like that haha. It was a crazy game!

[–]writes_bad_jokes 7 points8 points ago

Stephen Ireland.

Great work rate, great physical attributes, regularly falls out with management, shiniest head in the land.

[–]Newcastle Unitedverytallperson 2 points3 points ago

Must be sarcasm...

[–]Aston Villaaaybma 1 point2 points ago

I thought this before he came to Villa. He has been disappointing, with little glimpses of greatness. Hopefully he'll be able to become the same player he was when he was Man City's player of the year.

[–]Manchester CityArsePirate 1 point2 points ago

Was great for City until Mancini and the superstars came in and he lost his place. I haven't seen him much recently but I don't think he's ever really reached his City form again.

[–]BarcelonagingerbreadmanPK 7 points8 points ago

Ryan Babel. He's incredibly inconsistent, but when he scores it's always a beauty.

[–]Manchester Unitedamysarah 15 points16 points ago

David Healy. Did very little for clubs, but had a brilliant purple patch for Northern Ireland, scoring that goal against England, 2 against Sweden and a hat trick against Spain.

[–]New York Cosmossbjellery 30 points31 points ago

Wes Brown. Because he's pretty darn good for a baked bean.

[–]Manchester Unitedamysarah 6 points7 points ago*

I miss Wes Brown. And his brief ginger fro attempt to hide the beaniness

edit: added link for everyone to see the full horror

[–]Germanyaloneinlove 7 points8 points ago

He could have been England's number 1 right back if not for his persistent injury problems. SAF has described him as one of the most natural defenders he's seen. He was also instrumental for us on our European run in 2007/2008.

[–]Manchester UnitedJMunn21 2 points3 points ago

Yeah more underrated then mediocre. In 2008 when we won the CL he was playing right back every game and was obscurely good going forward as looked so wrong but worked so well when he toddled up the line.

[–]tkairns 1 point2 points ago

And he got the cross in for Ronaldo's goal in the final.

[–]United Statestpa_bcn 1 point2 points ago

Your link went down. Here's another. Good god, the horror.

[–]Manchester Unitedamysarah 1 point2 points ago

thank you :-)

except that is David James

[–]United Statestpa_bcn 1 point2 points ago

Heh, what do you know. It took me a while looking at pictures of the two to believe you. Still a little unsure. I apparently cannot tell english people apart.

To be fair, James looks a lot fairer than usual in that picture. Also, the file name is ginger afro, what hope did I have?

[–]Manchester Unitedamysarah 1 point2 points ago

James also had one, but that was more a bad dye job. James is quite fair, but as mentioned above Brown is a baked bean

[–]Republic of Irelanddelabass 2 points3 points ago

Suarez, is that you?

[–]Mepsi 2 points3 points ago

He doesn't talk to beans.

[–]EnglandJangles 32 points33 points ago

John O'Shea.

Plays anywhere, always does an alright job and does it without complaint. The ideal squad player and Fergies biggest transfer mistake this season, Uniteds defence wouldn't be nearly as shaky with him in it.

[–]Newcastle UnitedJimmySinner 13 points14 points ago

I'm a big fan of O'Shea as well. He's one of the best all-rounders in the game. Not a master of any particular position, but a true jack of all trades.

[–]Germanyaloneinlove 15 points16 points ago

Well that's 2 fans from rival clubs that have praised him, I think there's no higher honour than that.

[–]Norwich Cityicehockeyhair 2 points3 points ago

Very underrated - a great article on him here.
Has made the eleventh most appearances of any player under Fergie, one less than Beckham!

[–]Newcastle Unitednorthdancer 1 point2 points ago

Every squad needs a guy like this.

[–]Newcastle UnitedJimmySinner 5 points6 points ago

Carlton Cole, Emile Heskey, Mark Viduka, Nikola Zigic. Ball-playing forwards whose job isn't necessarily to score goals, but to bully defenders, hold up play, pick out passes and flick on headers. These sorts of players don't get enough credit.

[–]Middlesbrougheldenv 4 points5 points ago

Mark Viduka was far from mediocre! And he's probably got one of the best parody songs about him

[–]ArsenalBout_It_Bout_It 1 point2 points ago

Yo Viduka at Leeds was magnificent.

[–]Birmingham Citymattallurgist 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, upvoting for Zigic. I think he's basically the eastern-European version of Emile Heskey, but sometimes he does something astonishing. Plus, four goals in one game is always nice!

[–]West Ham Unitedimericrife 1 point2 points ago

Based God Carlton Cole is by far my favorite.

[–]Evertondeenda 4 points5 points ago

Leon Osman

[–]Real MadridUnckmania 5 points6 points ago

Giovani Dos Santos.

He doesn't even play frequently enough to be called a professional soccer player, and he is way inconsistent.

But he has scored some of the prettiest goals Mexico has ever witnessed for them.

[–]EnglandHarryBlessKnapp 32 points33 points ago

Dirk Kuyt. For his awesome performance in the goonies. No seriously though, Dirk is a fucking ledge.

John Fucking Jensen. Man I could go on. We used to have this discussion all the time.

Francis Benali. Glen Helder.

[–]Bob_Swarleymann 21 points22 points ago

Wouldn't call Kuyt mediocre player at all. Granted he doesn't have all the bells and whistles as other players have, but he's a hardworking player with a knack for being on the spot.

[–]Germanyaloneinlove 16 points17 points ago

I think he's a little underrated by fans of other clubs. People call him "hardworking" which is true but that's hardly his only quality. It's the same thing with Park, everyone calls him "hardworking who plays hard for the team" but people underrate his intelligence on and off the ball.

[–]Real Betisllimllib 4 points5 points ago

Park's my favorite player on united, I'm always disappointed if I watch one of their games and he's not on.

Come to think of it, Betis could really use a player like him, I wonder when his contract ends...

[–]Manchester UnitedzSolaris 1 point2 points ago

You've got to wait at least a year. 'Sides, Park says he wants to end his career at United.

[–]Bob_Swarleymann 1 point2 points ago

True - one of them being able to score goals. Didn't he reach some sort of milestone a few weeks back?

[–]EnglandHarryBlessKnapp 2 points3 points ago

Yeah fair enough. He's got an air of mediocrity about him though. He's not exactly hollywood stuff is he. But yeah, he is a great player.

[–]Bob_Swarleymann 1 point2 points ago

I get what you mean :)

He's a great product, but lacking the proper flashy wrapping.

[–]LillestrømJomiie 4 points5 points ago

Joaquin. He was great for a long time in Valencia, and had some really great dribbles.

[–]Newcastle UnitedcroutonZA 1 point2 points ago

He certainly wasn't considered mediocre at Betis, I remember all sorts of big clubs being linked to him. He never lived up to that kind of billing ever since he left.

[–]LillestrømJomiie 1 point2 points ago

If im not mistaken, wasn't he the favourite to win the award for best BBVA player whilst still in Betis? I remember he didn't win it, and some people were furious.

[–]Newcastle UnitedcroutonZA 2 points3 points ago

To be honest I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was true. He was seen as something really special during his early years. Heard a story once that Florentino Perez (Real Madrid president) asked him, "When are you going to come play for us?" This was during the first galactico period mind.

[–]Club Bruggemajestic7 1 point2 points ago

Valencia signed him for €25 mil if I remember correctly... hardly an amount you'd cough up for a mediocre player

[–]Tottenham HotspurEnglishGamer 4 points5 points ago

Cudicini, never moans about being a sub, gets some games occasionally and usually makes a mistake and a wonder save in the same match.

[–]Aston Villaaaybma 4 points5 points ago

Richard Dunne. Ok, he may hold the record for the most own goals in the premiership, but only because he's always in the action and giving it his all. Solid defender.

[–]Internazionaleiguanablazer 4 points5 points ago

Giovanni Dos Santos. I really want Harry to get the fuck out of Tottenham so Gio can get off the bench or at the very least allow his transfer!

[–]Finlanddharms 6 points7 points ago

Shefki Kuqi. He doesn't dribble, he just runs through. Sometimes even with the ball.

[–]Newcastle UnitedDonChudleigh 8 points9 points ago

Shola Ameobi, has the turning circle of an 18 wheeler truck, but just every so often he chips in with a piece of stupidly brilliant skill to show why all the geordies love him

[–]fulhamfeverfever 12 points13 points ago

As long as no one looks at my username and asks any follow up questions: Landon Donovan.

[–]Portsmouthscaryberry 21 points22 points ago

Why is your name fulhamfever? What about Clint Dempsey?

[–]Leicester Citykrisashmore 25 points26 points ago

Well you weren't listening at all, were you?

[–]Portsmouthscaryberry 7 points8 points ago

I'm sorry, what?

[–]Newcastle UnitedcroutonZA 4 points5 points ago*

Grant Holt! Even though he is chubby and the wrong side of 30, he scored 7 goals in 19 appearances (a few as a sub) in his first season in the Premier League. Then again, I'm just a fan of chubby footballers (David Dunn the notable exception).

Honorable mentions go to some ex-Newcastle players over the years such as Nikos Dabizas, Temuri Ketsbaia, Robbie Elliot, Steve Howey, David Batty and a few more I'm forgetting.

Edit: Too late to mention Chris Eagles?

[–]chengue[S] 2 points3 points ago

How about Windass

[–]Norwich Cityicehockeyhair 1 point2 points ago

Holty isn't chubby!

[–]Liverpoolgoodguysteve 3 points4 points ago

He's just big boned.

[–]Flaneuresque 4 points5 points ago

Moritz Volz; played a match with 'The Hoff' written on his boots, & has a website...

[–]Atlético MadridStingerc 3 points4 points ago*

German "el mono" Burgos. Former Atlético de Madrid & Argentina goalie. He was amazingly inconsistent, giving up howlers one game, only to look like Yashin the next.

He helped get Atlético back to la Liga after a particularly disastrous year in the 2nd division where the press expected them to crash & burn again like they had the year before.

He was also funny, witty, charming and an overall great guy to fans. He also had a heavy metal fan, like straight out of the 80's hair metal, and this was around 2002. In the off season he toured around Spain & Argentina playing bars.

And come on, you have to love a dude who's nickname "el mono" means "the monkey".

[–]ChileOnLakeOntario 2 points3 points ago

Humberto Suazo.

[–]Manchester Unitedwoiboy 3 points4 points ago

Michael Carrick.... selfless player, deployed out of position for years. Never complains gets the job done even when supporters criticize he just gets on with it. Besides that, he is a damn good passer

[–]Sunderlandf1manoz 2 points3 points ago

Nyron Nosworthy. Sunderland cult hero.

Phil Bardsley. Technically ungifted, but has a terrific engine and is always full of commitment. Has also scored a couple of cracking wondergoals that are still talked about today.

[–]SunderlandKhathaar 2 points3 points ago

They try to take the ball past Nyron, he says no, no, no

[–]Arsenalbrewhouse 2 points3 points ago

I don't know if he'd qualify as mediocre, but I'd have to say Ivica Olic for sheer workrate and determination. He gives it all, although he's a back up player and aging a bit now.

[–]Bob_Swarleymann 2 points3 points ago

[–]chengue[S] 2 points3 points ago

definitely one of the most politcally astute players

[–]chuckletrousers 2 points3 points ago

Alan Hutton. Old school, hard hitting, slightly filthy, right back.

[–]Bristol CityEnderMB 2 points3 points ago

Lee Trundle.

Was a god for Swansea a couple of years ago, before he joined us and ruined his career. He's now playing in the Welsh leagues. :(

[–]Englandshutyourgob 2 points3 points ago

Jimmy Bullard. This is why

[–]Bayern Münchenrodsaysgo 2 points3 points ago

Probably Tony Kroos. He's to slow to be an elite player, but he's got so much skill.... he needs somebody to whip his ass into god tier shape

[–]Hamburger SVDV1312 1 point2 points ago

Kroos? Mediocre? Okay :D

[–]Chicago Fireschnansen 2 points3 points ago

Kevin Davies. The guy could teach a lot of young strikers about hold up play and winning headers. Dude is amazing at fighting off defenders to win long ball headers. Still a pretty average footballer though.

[–]Oxford UnitedChoo41 2 points3 points ago

George Elokobi. Because he's a unit.

[–]SingaporeButterflyImprint 2 points3 points ago

Nicky Butt! Always in the shadow of someone else.

[–]Englandjestalotofjunk 2 points3 points ago

Some of the players being classed as medicore in this thread is shocking.

[–]Chelseawisdompeanuts 2 points3 points ago

Jesper Gronkjaer and Bolo Zenden

[–]Seattle Soundersravegreener 2 points3 points ago

I'm a fan of MLS, so....pretty much all of the Seattle Sounders.

[–]LiverpoolMike81890 1 point2 points ago

I'd say Montero is a cut above. Don't take the piss out of yourself like that

[–]Seattle Soundersravegreener 1 point2 points ago

don't get me wrong, I think the majority of the Sounders are better than most MLS teams. But when compared to EPL players, I think they're mostly mediocre. I mean, I've seen people list Dirk Kuyt on here as a mediocre player, and both Kuyt and even Carroll would clean up in MLS.

[–]AS Roma6SempreUnica 2 points3 points ago

Nico Burdisso. He is pure effort and strength. In Italian, we call what he has grinta. He always gives every game his all and puts in great performances for the shirt.

[–]theTown00 4 points5 points ago

Mother fuckin Park Ji Sung -he's not a mediocre player, but god damn does he work his ass off. each and every time. He's made some great progress for asian footballers. Always happy to see him running around on the pitch.

[–]themanguydude 11 points12 points ago

Fernando Torres. Lulz

[–]ArsenalSyran 5 points6 points ago

Asamoah Gyan, loved him for Ghana in the 2010 world cup. Loved him when he was Chelsea-slayer for Sunderland. He missed a penalty against Zambia, but that's that. I'm a huge Ghana fan and he's just a very good finisher and not much more or less. He's better than mediocre and worse than World Class, but his technique is pretty good and he's efficient all around.

[–]Norwich Cityicehockeyhair 2 points3 points ago

Terrible attitude though, all about the money.

[–]Sunderlandf1manoz 6 points7 points ago

Fuck that cunt. Sorry but no Sunderland fan will ever forgive him for the way he left. Look up 'mercenary' in the dictionary and you'll find his photo.

[–]Englandfunk_master_khan 37 points38 points ago

If you look up 'mercenary' in the dictionary i'm pretty sure you'll find a clear and concise definition of the word mercenary, because that is what dictionaries are for.

[–]Newcastle UnitedJimmySinner 67 points68 points ago

Dictionaries in Sunderland have pictures, they're not very good with big words like 'mercenary'.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Don't forget his last minute of extra time World Cup penalty miss in the Quarter Finals against Uruguay!

[–]SunderlandKhathaar 1 point2 points ago

Fuck Suarez.

[–]Leeds UnitedChive 1 point2 points ago

Gerry Armstrong. Purely and simply for this goal.

[–]Norwich Cityicehockeyhair 1 point2 points ago

Simon Lappin. Great attitude, frozen out of the side by Glenn Roeder and forced to train with the youth team. Kept going, and forced his way back in.
After two consecutive promotions where he played the majority of games, he is very much a squad player (the shock when he was in the starting XI against QPR was sufficient to get him trending on Twitter) but gives his all when he gets the chance.
He never scores mind.

[–]Englandtalvi 1 point2 points ago

Grant Holt. Great player.

[–]bogus2112 1 point2 points ago

Antonio Nocerino he is a good substitute. He run for the ball everytime and score some goals from time to time. Even hatricks. He is a good mediocre player.

[–]AC MilanRossoneri 1 point2 points ago

He's starting every game now and has scored 8 goals, including a hat-trick. He runs his ass off and constantly gets himself in good scoring positions. Bought to be a substitute for half a million euros, he was an amazing signing and while he at Palermo I definitely would have considered him to be mediocre, however he is playing anything but mediocre at Milan.

[–]São PauloPEengineer 1 point2 points ago

Denilson, played for my team in Sao Paulo and did some great stuff, was even called to the Brazilian national team, then he went to Real Betis and no one has seen him ever since

[–]Birmingham Citybalancedhighs 1 point2 points ago

Walter Pandiani. Because he drives an articulated lorry, rather than sports car.

[–]Oldham AthleticNukeWild 1 point2 points ago

Matt Smith.

He's 6'6", played non-league during his law degree and scored a lot, graduated Uni and signed for Oldham last summer. He's scored a few winners and point-savers coming on as a sub sporadically this season.

[–]ChelseaChocolateCONEr 1 point2 points ago

Kevin Kilbane, even at the ripe old age of 66 does he bust his ass to get a game.

[–]Newcastle Unitedrepost-is-relative 2 points3 points ago*

Antoine Sibierski, turned up on a free, on January deadline day under Roeder to choruses of 'who the hell is he and why have we bought him', but he just went about heading in goals and setting up Oba Martins through several rounds of the Intertoto Cup, then left after a year. You can't get more mediocre than that but I love him as he won fans over with his effort on the pitch and personality off it.

[–]Liverpoolnextman6515 1 point2 points ago

Leon Britton. He has the highest percentage of accurate passes in europe, yet no goals or assists.

[–]Germanyhansibit 1 point2 points ago

Wouldn't call him medicore, but Sven Bender deserves some love. The guy runs as much as two players, knows his shit when it comes to tackles and is so damn consistent. When people talk about Dortmunds defense they always start with Hummels but I think Bender is such an important piece!

[–]Houston DynamoMcHORSE 1 point2 points ago

Amazing name.

[–]Liverpoolt0rk 1 point2 points ago

Lewandowski. He's polish.

[–]Manchester Citymcityftw[!] 1 point2 points ago

Sean Wright-Phillips, well liked by team mates and managers, seems to have a great attitude, never stops working even when he barely plays. Capable of flashes of brilliance. Hell, I cheer for QPR when they are on just because of him. (Unless they are playing Citeh)

[–]BrasilFredigundo 1 point2 points ago

To this day I thought his name was Shaun

[–]Barcelonajklz 1 point2 points ago

I don't know if you can call him mediocre, but Seydou Keita. Doesn't complain about sitting on the bench, performs well almost all the time, clean player and just a good player overall.

[–]Aston Villaanothermuffin 1 point2 points ago

Gabriel Agbonlahor

[–]Spainthatdani 2 points3 points ago

Beast in Fifa 12 :)

Salomon kalou is my favourite player of all time , so much so that I want him to leave Chelsea so that he can get starting football

[–]Manchester Unitedsnakedog 1 point2 points ago

John O'Shea Uniteds unsung hero

[–]Arsenaliworkinakitchen 1 point2 points ago

Damien Duff. Was an awesome wing player and he's an irishman.

[–]drmcgillicuddy 1 point2 points ago

Chris Fucking Eagles.

[–]West Ham UnitedIamthescientist 1 point2 points ago

I love George Elokobi, I've no idea why.

[–]LiverpoolMike81890 1 point2 points ago

Jay Spearing. Looks like a mentally handicapped toddler genetically mutated with a bulldog, is a little over-tenacious with some tackles, and isn't getting any younger, but he's got the Liverpool way down

[–]Tottenham Hotspurdefoe99 1 point2 points ago

Better than mediocre but Scott Parker just puts in more effort than anyone else on the field when he is playing.

[–]FC Dallasfenryka 4 points5 points ago

Brek Shea because he carried FCD this year when David Ferreira was out, and he's an amusing fellow

EDIT: also Jackson, Marvin Chavez and others FCD had the last two years

[–]Franceadoxographyadlibitum 5 points6 points ago

Too young to be defined as mediocre.

[–]Evertonbrettvirmalo 1 point2 points ago

Hoping he rockets right past mediocre if he hasn't already.

[–]FC Dallasfenryka 1 point2 points ago

me too, me too.

i think he's a beast, but compared to the world scale of footbaling talent, i think he'd be considered mediocre.

[–]hldstdy 1 point2 points ago

A 19 year seen as the future of the USMNT is now mediocre?

ffs

[–]Seattle Soundersbigwoody 3 points4 points ago

Roger Levesque

Far from the most talented player on the Sounders, but he has a knack for pissing off our rivals, occasional moments of sheer brilliance (stripping the opposing keeper for a goal comes to mind), and hilarious goal celebrations (the dunk tank celebration after the same goal).

Honorable mention to Mike Fucito.

arshavin. :(

[–]Lincoln CityEepyDee 0 points1 point ago

Club legend 'Hoof' Grant Brown, you can guess where the nickname came from. I still model my defensive game on him whenever I play.

[–]AWaffleTooFar 0 points1 point ago

Elano

[–]Club Atlasgragoon 0 points1 point ago

Rodrigo "El Pony" Ruiz because he was a key player for Santos and Neza... and he is still playing.

[–]LiverpoolAlgosaubi 0 points1 point ago

Milivoje Novakovic. I don't know why, but I just love his style on the pitch...

All finishing/finished their careers now, but I always liked Nobbie Solano, Robbie Savage and John Arne Riise despite none of them ever playing for clubs I support or being considered world class by anyone.

As a Rangers fan I always liked Alan Hutton, Craig Moore and Sasa Papac when everyone else seemed to think they were shit and all eventually became good players that all the fans liked.

Also always saw potential in Charlie Adam when the rest of our support were getting on his back. We stupidly played him wide as we had really good central midfielders at the time, and he's too slow for a wide midfielder, Rangers fans have never been the most patient with youngsters, so he was pretty much booed every touch by his own fans by always thought he was talented. Then we sold him for pennies, and look where he is now :(

As a Barcelona fan I always loved Marquez. He always kept it simple for Barca and played a supporting role for the stars. When he played for Mexico he got to be more the main man, and he always looked like he revelled in it. Think he was a guy that really got the max out of his abilities and appreciated he was lucky to have achieved everything he did.

Juan Pablo Angel or Nolberto Solano, constantly a source of frustration but when they got it right they got it rights, more ups and downs than Hamlet

For my team it has to be Steve Howard. Signed for £50,000 and fired us all into the Championship, mostly with his head!

[–]FiorentinaAlikese 0 points1 point ago

Probably Angelo Di Livio. Hard working, tough-nosed little bastard who always made his team better. And when Fiorentina was relegated to Serie C he went down with the team and helped to build them back up.

Class guy.

[–]Olympique Lyonnaisbeer_OMG_beer 0 points1 point ago

All of Lyon's starting 11 qualifies qualifies under these parameters in one way or another.

[–]LiverpoolMike81890 1 point2 points ago

Cris?

[–]Juventusbbkdta 0 points1 point ago

Simone Pepe. because of his golf swing celebration.

[–]United StatesVandimar 0 points1 point ago

Frankie Hejduk because slide tackles.

Every player in Motagua.

[–]West Ham UnitedOxyCottonTail 1 point2 points ago

good question. I'm partial to dean windass. i enjoyed watching paul dickov at the height of his terrier like annoyance. i have a soft spot for duncan ferguson. and, because i support west ham, a shout out to freddy sears - in my mind a wunderkind but i think to most a curious little whip big on pace and short on everything else. but still, love you freddy

Mario Basler, german midfielder from the 90's, selfproclaimed chain smoker, vulgar, arrogant, aggressive son of a bitch, but no one was better at kicking the ball from a resting position, his corners were legendary and he would never hold back his opinion in front of a microphone

I feel modern day soccer lacks characters like him :-)

[–]Arsenalthedumbdown 0 points1 point ago

Ray Parlour. He worked his socks off and after the game would kick back a few pints w/ the old gang. Had a scorcher of a long shot and was able to adapt his game from the old English style to the new European style before retiring.

[–]LiverpoolGoose_Sandals 0 points1 point ago

Freddy Adu. Americas wonderboy.

[–]Manchester Unitedswiftekho 0 points1 point ago

Tom Cleverley (yes, Im biased). He is brilliant to watch and will only get better if he can avoid injury. Mediocre now though.
