worst tournament this year. just terrible, was expecting so much and they disappoint everyone with terrible quality and 10% of the matches streamed

[–]ODDa 11 points12 points ago

I've seen more pixels in Japanese porn videos...

[–]Cromiell[Cromiell] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

That's a useless comparison. Japanese porn is always good quality.

I've seen more pixels on a Game Boy Color

FTFY

[–]actionturtle 3 points4 points ago

i think he means because all the good shit is censored with BLOCKS

[–]sleightofhand 0 points1 point ago

You have to remember though that WCG is going bankrupt after this year so they have absolutely no incentive to run this tournament properly since they aren't coming back next year. Basically, they do not give a shit whether you like their tournament or not because they're not even gonna be here next year to feel the effects of consumer dissatisfaction.

[–]Almalex 0 points1 point ago

the thing is, they prefer to show wc3 or tekken over lol. if you remember, dreamhack or something, they had like 200k viewers. so wcg could make money with showing lol all day on the wcg lol stream and this many viewers and showing ads between games.

[–]sleightofhand 5 points6 points ago

Wc3 and Tekken are more popular in Korea than LoL. League of legends does not enjoy the same success it does in NA and Europe in Asia. In NA, LoL is the second most popular title in terms of viewership trailing only SC2 but in Asia it's a different story. LoL is behind SC2, SC:BW, WC3, DotA and a bunch of fighting games (Street Fighter, Tekken etc.) in terms of popularity so you can't really blame them for streaming those games over LoL.

[–]Almalex 0 points1 point ago*

as i said. they have a own wcg lol stream, so thats not the point

see http://www.own3d.tv/live/174843/WCG_League_of_Legends

shouldnt be a problem to let 2 ppl cast the games from this stream, while showing wc3 and the other stuff on main and second stream...

[–]GhostDadTheWhip 1 point2 points ago

I'm looking for more information about WCG "going bankrupt after this year" and I don't see anything. Could you provide a source for your comment? Pics or it didn't happen, bro.

[–]TilDuh[Tilduh] (NA) 4 points5 points ago

man remember when everyone hated MLG that was fun -.-

[–]Maleous[Maleous] (NA) 27 points28 points ago

That first MLG LOL tourney looks like the pinnacle of e-sports when compared to WCG.

[–]overts 0 points1 point ago

The one where zero games were streamed? Really?

It's not like we even missed much in group stages.

[–]rljohn 0 points1 point ago

That was Riot's fault, not really WCG's.

[–]netonex[Neto Nex] (NA) 18 points19 points ago

http://www.own3d.tv/live/174843/WCG_League_of_Legends this stream has great quality no comentators or anything but meh its something right?

[–]CoverYourHead 8 points9 points ago

Seriously, why is this stream in HD, but the main stage looks like a 90's VHS tape left in a moldy basement?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Main stage is broadcast directly to tv and then restreamed for us. That why the resolution is a tv's resolution.

[–]Limonovich 4 points5 points ago

why is their tv in 4:3? i thought korea had all the best technology and shit

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

No idea at all.

[–]elementss[Zantrex] (NA) 1 point2 points ago

that is damn good quality, thank you.

[–]Chipmoonk 17 points18 points ago

Hah, and the CLG vs Italy game is the grainy mess of yesterday. Great work happening.

[–]Gangrene 10 points11 points ago

It's almost easier to watch minimized.

[–]Jeffreykins 4 points5 points ago

sooooo true

and at the same time sooo sad...

[–]pvstarr[pvstarr] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

That's exactly what i did, otherwise my eyes were too strained trying to look at things.

[–]bringingaknife 57 points58 points ago

I am just shocked that anybody can sit at home and stream in HD on own3d.tv no problem, and somehow WCG finds it impossible.

[–]Mintastic 59 points60 points ago

You can tell they're putting a lot of work into it, because it'd be impossible for someone at home to stream at the quality they're using. You'd have to pass your stream through at least 3 encoders, record on a VHS tape, then replay on a CRT monitor, then capture the video/audio through a cheap camcorder, to get that quality.

[–]hydrohydro 29 points30 points ago

you forgot the betamax relay.

[–]Chryton[chryton] (NA) 18 points19 points ago

And punchcards.

[–]CandidWalrus[WindycityJuggalo] (NA) 42 points43 points ago

And my axe

[–]angryMuu 0 points1 point ago

idk if u watched the same stream but on korean, they have better contrast. i dont know how is this possible, but the same game has better contrast on korean stage..but quality is the same..i opened both streams, watched koren and listened to english.

[–]Aydoooo 5 points6 points ago

[–]Alyxe 1 point2 points ago

But...Betamax was higher quality than VHS...

[–]Justanotherphan[Darkwardz] (NA) 8 points9 points ago

At least I'm getting good sleep knowing I wont miss anything. Hopefully IEM Kiev will redeem this crappy tournament.

[–]MadeSenseAtTheTime[Holisyn] (NA) 1 point2 points ago

They will. IEM > WCG in pretty much every way.

[–]Brad11[S] 2 points3 points ago

Well that game was a stomp...shocking

[–]pgan91 11 points12 points ago

The fact that the Korean casters never seemed to miss anything is fucking awesome. Too bad I can't exactly see what's going on.

[–]Brad11[S] 12 points13 points ago

Well they missed Cass killing karthus but other than that they did well following the action. That isn't my issue though, I am more concerned with the streaming of games which are obvious stomps instead of games like CDE vs CLG.

[–]infraredux 10 points11 points ago

The thing I was most impressed about (at least from not having watched many Spectator streams) was that they'd quickly toggle Fog of War to show when someone had a sight advantage leading up to a potential gank.

[–]m3tathesis 4 points5 points ago

I relate Korean Cybergame castors to Mexican football castors. Same amount of zeal.

[–]exdigguser147[ArvX] (NA) 2 points3 points ago

5 ZEALS

[–]Zzoso 1 point2 points ago

In their defense, the Cass kill on Karth was like...in the blink of an eye and kinda unexpected.

[–]Bobius[BobiusMaximus] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

It was also an amazing kill.

[–]insomniaq 8 points9 points ago

"HASHAJIJI.. OOOOOOOOOOOH."

Korean casters are too entertaining.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Look up some starcraft 1 games if you have never seen any.

PLAAGGGGGGGGGGUUUUUUUUUUUU

[–]moose5 1 point2 points ago

REAVAAAAAAAAH

[–]harabec01 2 points3 points ago

One thing I'd like to know: why do they always pan off to the audience and who was that girl with tattoos?

[–]Forbiddian 3 points4 points ago

The girl with the dragon tattoo?

[–]finalej 0 points1 point ago

it's a thing in korea, see there's actual fan following in korea that is similar to pro sports here in the states that brings signs to games to cheer they're player/team on. So maybe that girl had some signifigance?

[–]cleoman -4 points-3 points ago

Haha, that was my friend's wife, the camera operator kept the camera on her for a good while.

[–]TheShaker 0 points1 point ago

Was it? I couldn't see.

[–]MadeSenseAtTheTime[Holisyn] (NA) 1 point2 points ago

Glad they cut to so many crowd shots during points in the game where nothing was happening...

Oh wait, no, they cut to crowd shots at the start of team fights and a couple of ganks. Gold quality camera work there.

[–]masamune_ryuu 3 points4 points ago

Perfect example of a business ran by people who are clueless about games and TI in general.

[–]finalej 0 points1 point ago

I remember when the WCG was held exclusively in california...if it on you tube look up x-play wcg interview.

[–]tokester22[Toke22] (NA) 3 points4 points ago

I hope it dies. What kind of 'event' doesn't stream every match they're paying people to play? Every other event has been good except WCG. And they cause constant drama in the community then put on shitty streams and matches. Good riddance.

[–]p0ppy21[!] 6 points7 points ago

It's sad that some kid streaming from their mommas house will have a 100x better quality than this joke of an organization that WCG is. Maybe they should have a homeless man restream the tournament through the free WiFi at Mc Donalds so we can get some semi decent quality.

[–]angryMuu 4 points5 points ago

oh, english casters said that they dont have wireless in the arena..LoL

[–]snackies[snackattack2] (NA) 2 points3 points ago

Yeah... I heard elementz say "CDE won, they didn't stream it." I just kinda raged... That was i'm sure the best match of the tourney.

[–]BEEFire 2 points3 points ago

every wcg is joke tournament

[–]dangots0ul 1 point2 points ago

WCG has been like this since... forever. Don't take it too seriously. Its more a spectacle than an actually top tier competitive tourny

[–]xmykro 1 point2 points ago

Here is what I don't understand: Why can't the english commentators join spectator mode from a SEPARATE computer? so we don't have to watch the shitty quality of the "TV broadcast".

Someone was streaming earlier tonight on a WCG "Off Stage" Stream, and the quality was perfect! So high quality is possible!

[–]MadeSenseAtTheTime[Holisyn] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

I would imagine the spectator slots are all taken by the Korean TV affiliate that is broadcasting the games.

[–]m3tathesis 0 points1 point ago

I only caught a glimpse, but Chaox was on own3d during their first fight against Poland. Who actually knows tho.

[–]ArcaniteReaper 0 points1 point ago

How many games have actually been streamed from yesterday and today. I know of a Dignitas one, Acer one, and the CLG we just saw. were there any more?

[–]youngs0945 2 points3 points ago

I think there have been 4 total. Here is a link to the outcomes, but the site is insanely slow to load (at least for me).

[–]Brad11[S] 0 points1 point ago

1 More which was EDG vs MY

[–]emptyNESS 2 points3 points ago

Actually there are a couple more games that were streamed. Here, http://www.own3d.tv/event/wcg#/live/174843 and they also recorded some of the games i think.

[–]Mototo 1 point2 points ago

http://www.own3d.tv/WCG#/live/167453

and league is not on main stage awesome.

[–]heavybook 1 point2 points ago

That IGD vs. whoever was horrible. Karthus would ultimate and get 0 kills and 0 assists. Anivia did horrible tower dives and died. Anivia was focused in the jungle invasion. Everyone's CS was awful.

[–]Lil_green 0 points1 point ago

Yep. But it was TOE VS EDG. iG are killin it

[–]Sol-Surviv-ar 0 points1 point ago

I don't know what im watching cause its actually high quality... http://www.own3d.tv/WCG#/live/174843, although no commentary

[–]m3tathesis 0 points1 point ago

Has anyone checked the SC2 streams? I wanna know if its just LoL thats terrible or its all of their streams.

[–]Uler 0 points1 point ago

It's actually just the main stream. The secondary and game-specific streams have been fine (though no commentary).

[–]Chryton[chryton] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

All of them have been crap for me. The secondary streams have spurts of clarity but quickly turn into smudges if there is a lot of action. That and none of the audio seems to be synced.

[–]Chryton[chryton] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

They are very hit or miss. Sometimes I can see what is going on, but most of the time it is just streaks of blood, shields, and GG.

[–]coboltdk 1 point2 points ago

I still cant belive the english speaking commentators, witch have by far more viewers (at least online), dont have a spectator mode but are just streaming what the koreans are seeing. So retarded. Friday (EU time) they actually changed camera away from a team fight to look at the audience.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

In Korea the casters don't control the camera. It is just that the western casters arent used to It.

[–]MadeSenseAtTheTime[Holisyn] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

The spectators, as the English commentators stated at some point last night, are being run by a Korean TV affiliate that is broadcasting the games. They're surprisingly good at catching action in game but the people/person that is deciding when to do colorful crowd cut-aways is f'ing up too often, cutting away during interesting moments to show crowd shots.

Par for the WCG course though.

[–]frankylchan 0 points1 point ago

the video quality of main stage is much worse than the off-stage quality. what a joke

[–]ArtNine 0 points1 point ago

They didn't have that big of a budget to start with, there's your problem.

[–]angryMuu 0 points1 point ago

i think that the steams budget is the smallest thing in the whole organisation budget..and pays itself off with ads

[–]MadeSenseAtTheTime[Holisyn] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

Considering how much time is spent streaming WCG specific ads and not revenue generating ads, this could be done better too. Not surprising though.

I'm sure Razer is paying for their 1/4 spots but those 2 (or 3) WCG patting themselves on the back spots could be deferred to someone willing to pay. It'd reduce the monotony of a 30-45 minute block of the same 4 ads running on a loop as well.

[–]Narrov 1 point2 points ago

This is the first tournament in since dreamhack last year that I havent paid any attention to it at all. The stream is god awful for me and the timezones make it impossible for me to spend more than like an hour watching it before I have to go to bed. I know that Riot want to branch out into the far east more but does it have to be at the expense of those people who are already invested in the game?

[–]rcsAlex 0 points1 point ago

Why is bracket play best of one?

[–]FinalRequiem1[NA Requiem] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

WCG has been a joke for a while know, they probably won't be around for much longer.

[–]Brickrocket 0 points1 point ago

the korean shoutcasters make up for it.

[–]HTS_Lamba 0 points1 point ago

QQ

[–]Azzwagon 0 points1 point ago

I can't believe they didn't stream the single most important game in the tourny so far.

[–]G2Wolf 0 points1 point ago

You mean the fact Asphalt6 (a racing game on mobile phones) getting the biggest prize pool of any game at WCG wasn't an obvious enough sign?

[–]ohhii 1 point2 points ago

i think the main stage has an issue or somthing the second stage is much higher quality on stream

[–]MadeSenseAtTheTime[Holisyn] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

Main stage is being broadcast to TV in Korea and then re-streamed, while the second stage is just streaming so isn't suffering from the reduced quality of the TV broadcast.

[–]salinawyldcat -1 points0 points ago

Has anyone seen any response from RIOT at all or are they just pretending that this isn't happening?

The only thing I saw on redtracker was one community manager saying that it wasn't his job (which is true).

[–]Keiano[NievesPL] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

Riot has nothing to do there dude -.-

[–]salinawyldcat -1 points0 points ago

I'm betting RIOT is putting a significant chunk of cash towards it.

[–]Keiano[NievesPL] (NA) 0 points1 point ago

And so does Blizzard and other games that are played at WCG ? You have to be kidding.

[–]salinawyldcat 0 points1 point ago

Not kidding at all. The details aren't public, but I'm pretty confident they are paying tens of thousands.

[–]salinawyldcat 0 points1 point ago

S2 Dev confirms Riot at the very least bought exclusive rights.

Lawyered.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points ago

Free stream, and people bitching about it. lawllawl

[–]Brad11[S] 1 point2 points ago

Not going to go into how stupid this comment is, but rest assured that your comment is 100% retarded.

[–]LtWeight[ProbablyCloned] (NA) -2 points-1 points ago

He does have a point; you people are acting like you are entitled to something.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points ago

so mad to single out my comment about people bitching of a free stream, np bro. you can cry on my shoulder too.
