Vagrant items: can I just drop the junk I don't want to spawn more of them? (self.darksouls)
submitted 3 months ago by gosassinThe guilty pay the price.
EG, I have about a dozen hollow armor pieces. Can (should i?) I just drop them somewhere, rather than putting them in the bottomless box, to generate more drift/vagrant items in the gameworld at large?

Yes. Do it. There are specific locations listed on the wiki: HERE.

True, and I've been doing that too, but if dropping them creates more awesome variety of gameplay in the form of rare enemies appearing in other worlds, that seems better to me for the community as a whole.

Depends on where & how you drop em. Could be a dick move if newbies get stuck fighting like 6 mobs in Firelink. I know a guy that did this thinking he was dropping gear to help someone out, then he got a rather irate message from the guy he was "helping."

I don't think it is that direct. You simply drop items in your own world, and they eventually turn into Vagrants in some other person's world. I don't think you can target someone by invading them and dropping stuff as a phantom. Besides, from what I understand Vagrants are not a big threat anyway.

Is what he claimed. Could easily have been full of it. I am rather new to this also, so I defer to the veterans.

If it is true and someone dropped a bunch of stuff in my world, I would be pleased at the prospect of having little Vagrants running around. I still haven't seen one outside of YouTube.

i believe you have to drop them in places where you haven't beaten the area boss, to spawn vagrants. although i could easily be wrong on that. I've spawned the white crab, which barely did any damage to me, by dropping armor in the parish near the altar with the corpse.

Do you mind elaborating on that? How much armor did you drop? What kind? How long did you wait around before the crab spawned?
I dropped all the balder shields/silver knight stuff I had picked up along the way next to the corpse in the parish. I got invaded, and the guy caught me. When I came back from the firelink shrine, this crab was chilling there. I basically shit myself and kited it for 10min. I'll get a pic up for proof

If in the right place, yes.
