Personally, my choice would be Heavy Rain - but it all depends on what kind of games you actually like.

They are two very different types of game, each with their own pros and cons, but again those differ based on what kind of games you usually play.

I'm really looking forward to Heavy Rain - my copy should be arriving any day now, and I can't wait to play.
Demon's Souls looks like a great game, but based on what I usually play, Heavy Rain is my personal preference here.

Rent if you can... best advice I can offer. You would be surprised how you might feel about a game that you invested $8 into and spent a week with it...versus spending $60 and feeling like you "need" to enjoy it.

Demon's Souls. No doubt.

I have both and have played completely through both. I will definitely play through Heavy Rain again but I've put about 100 hours into Demon's Souls and I love it.

Both? I don't know, it depends on the kind of games you like. I've only played the Heavy Rain demo, which I did like, but I also own Demon's Souls and it's a great game. My feeling is that you might be able to get by with just a rent of Heavy Rain if money is tight.

I don't think there is a demo for Deamon's souls.

Try Darksiders, I like the demo, but didn't get time to beat it yet. No save available.

Demon's souls is one hell of an amazing game. Artistic, challenging, loads of atmosphere..innovative online elements, a true hardcore rpg. I have well over 80 hours into this game.
