I met him. He was nice enough. He just doesn't seem like the brightest guy. He made some money and has a huge fan base, when you combine that with his intellect and environment growing up you get his current personality. I try to ignore it and not listen to any interviews. Down -Nola was a great album along with all things Pantera and I just leave it at that.

[–]WolfInTheField 3 points4 points ago

I don't know man, the speech the guy gave on addiction in 2007 was pretty awesome. I think that he may indeed not be too bright, but he gets/used to get as much out of his intellect as he could/can.

[–]LoRez 1 point2 points ago

All of this, but I was always pretty surprised by the quality of the lyrics in a lot of songs.

[–]Hraesvelg7 63 points64 points ago

He wouldn't sign my copy of Power Metal. Douchebag.

[–]corby_tender 0 points1 point ago

that's really lame. that album is awesome and better than they're other shit if you ask me

[–]DesolationK 38 points39 points ago

Heroin is one hell of a drug.

[–]docbond 108 points109 points ago

My buddy and I were backstage at Ozzfest in 2000 eating catered lunch with Ozzy, Tommy Lee & Phil Anselmo.

Sharon Osbourne leans over to Tommy Lee and says, "Oi, Tommy. Are you still beatin' up on Pammy? She's a lovely girl and you should really knock that shit off."

Tommy Lee, the hard-core, tattooed, bad-ass with a monster wang lowers his eyes and humbly replies, "No, Mrs. Osbourne" without a hint of sarcasm.

Phil and I exchange a look. Mine says "I'm going to laugh" and his says "You had better not."

tl;dr - Phil saved me from getting my ass kicked by Sharon Osbourne.

[–]jb4427 50 points51 points ago

You think Tommy Lee is a hard-core badass? What are you doing on r/metal?

[–]Bronan_the_Brobarian 19 points20 points ago

Fvcking Trve Kvlt

[–]docbond 0 points1 point ago

I judge a man by the company he keeps.

[–]BarfingBear 0 points1 point ago

You don't know about his gay companions, then. Look up Mr. Lee on Metal Sludge.

[–]docbond 1 point2 points ago

Are you saying that by having gay friends or by being gay then, by default, you cannot be a hard-core badass? Thanks, but I'll keep my Judas Priest and Queen music in high regard anyway.

[–]MsgGodzilla 14 points15 points ago

"No, Mrs. Osbourne"

Best thing i've read all day. thanks

[–]WithTwoWise 20 points21 points ago

I'm probably gonna get downvoted to shit for showin' any emotion in this subreddit.

But what the fuck's funny about a dude beating his lady?

[–]thecompletegeek2 49 points50 points ago

I don't think docbond was laughing because of domestic abuse—rather because Tommy Lee was so awed and overpowered by Sharon Osbourne's admonishment.

[–]WithTwoWise 21 points22 points ago

Oh....

Derp.

[–]mayonesaconservationist 5 points6 points ago

PC Derp.

[–]docbond 18 points19 points ago

I was about to start laughing because Tommy received a left-field, verbal smack-down from Sharon. I didn't even know she was standing there until she started talking to him. We were all just BSing over lunch when what was eating at Sharon sprung forth.

And you can be guaranteed that if I had shown any interest in this 1 on 1 conversation being held in front of everyone I would have been thrown out post haste.

[–]WithTwoWise 7 points8 points ago

Yeah man I totally see what you were laughing at now. My fault, no disrespect meant.

[–]docbond 6 points7 points ago

None taken.

[–]WolfInTheField 5 points6 points ago

Anybody say metalheads ain't civil?

We are a bunch of fucking gentlemen!

[–]JRowe3388 0 points1 point ago

I remember this story. I'm on reddit too much.

[–]ZeusMcFly 0 points1 point ago

I enjoyed your story, but in all fairness all of those men are douche bags.

[–]zrodionZRodion 22 points23 points ago

Heh, that won't boil anyones blood in this subreddit. Try saying something like that about Dimebag though and watch the shit hit the fan.

[–]sweetjesusfacefuck 11 points12 points ago

Was dimebag a douchebag though? I always assumed he was a nice guy.

[–]zrodionZRodion 10 points11 points ago

I meant just generally dissing Dimebag will get you into more trouble if pissing off people is your goal.

[–]sweetjesusfacefuck 6 points7 points ago

Ok I see what you mean.

[–]moddestmouse 6 points7 points ago

Dimebag was always considered an incredibly nice and jovial person well before his death. What a fucking tragedy.

[–]Evilsmurf 0 points1 point ago

However, he would never sniff the "greatest guitarists of all time" lists like he does if he was alive.

[–]mayonesaconservationist 4 points5 points ago

Fer DIME!!!

[–]ichabodguitar 11 points12 points ago

Fuck those dudes for beating you up over something so trivial. Metal doesn't need more meatheads.

[–]andrewsmith1986 113 points114 points ago

Phil Anselmo is a douche.

My friend met him and was star struck and phil asked if he was going to suck his cock. (or something along those lines)

[–]Gitarham 56 points57 points ago

You are fucking everywhere I am. Literally.

[–]andrewsmith1986 32 points33 points ago

I'm reverse stalking you.

[–]Gitarham 24 points25 points ago

While fapping to Jenny McCarthy?

[–]andrewsmith1986 21 points22 points ago

ಠ_ಠ

This is why we can't have nice things.

[–]Gitarham 12 points13 points ago

Every time I see you, I will tell people to RES tagg you. One day they'll all know.

[–]andrewsmith1986 13 points14 points ago

I can't wait to run for president.

[–]andrewsmith1986 5 points6 points ago

Man, I'm shocked that you found it so quick.

That is the original.

[–]slipstream37w4rship17 2 points3 points ago

You have to wait ten more years though.

[–]Gitarham 1 point2 points ago

The internett will always find it quick.

[–]gooddaysir 0 points1 point ago

You don't have to run for president, I'm writing you in. There are too many damn cats on this island.

[–]zuperxtreme 2 points3 points ago

[–]Gitarham 6 points7 points ago

Oh look there is me! I'm not tagged. :(

Btw, tag andrew as "Faps to Jenny McCarthy".

[–]DroneMan11 22 points23 points ago

Andrew Fucking Smith1986

[–]WolfInTheField 0 points1 point ago

Dude, you left r/IAMA for this? I mean, we're graced by your presence, but you really are everywhere. Didn't know you dug metal!

[–]andrewsmith1986 0 points1 point ago

I saw pantera the day after my 16th birthday.

I've seen cannibal corpse and like 200 other metal bands.

[–]WolfInTheField 0 points1 point ago

O.o

Dude. Nice.

[–]seth11111 1 point2 points ago

You don't act like a bitch to Phil.

[–]BitchHunter 14 points15 points ago

Yeah, something about die-hard Pantera fans, man.

[–]MRxxGREEN 18 points19 points ago

Kinda remind me of Juggalos

[–]MsgGodzilla 12 points13 points ago

I almost became a juggalo once. I was 15 with few friends and impressionable, and I'm walking home from school wearing my Mushroomhead shirt (yeah yeah I know) and this car load of juggalos pulls up and was like " YO MAN YOU A JUGGALO, COME CHILL WITH US." and I almost did, which might have ruined my life. I feel like I dodged a bullet by saying no.

[–]tubcat 1 point2 points ago

i feel the same way with juggalos in middle school. Thank god I didn't hang out with them after school a single day....or join the BMG CD Club where you got 10 free cds for signing over your life. Either one of those decisions would have made my life total FUBAR.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

People who can't resist talking shit about Pantera the moment they are brought up are more like juggalos than Pantera fans. You don't win points by dissing them, people. Get over it.

[–]KandyMasta 1 point2 points ago

I live in Bristol Rhode Island, go to MT. Hope Highschool, and we just had a "gang war" between "ghetto" kids and juggalos. This kid, a juggalo, got decked infront of everyone. Story. I hate the idiots in my school.

[–]Pistolfist 46 points47 points ago

I fucking love everything Phil Anselmo has ever touched, I still think he is a douchebag, he's just some redneck fucking racist who is really really talented.

You don't have to like something for the music they make to be appealing.

[–]bradle 22 points23 points ago

This is how I feel about Queens of the Stoneage about 1000x over. One of my favorite bands, but every time Josh Homme opens his mouth and doesn't sing it's just painful.

[–]WarHymn 11 points12 points ago

The Beatles jump to mind

[–]CannabisCorpse 32 points33 points ago

or Burzum...

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points ago

You don't think Varg is a nice guy?

[–]nubmonkxmonk 40 points41 points ago

I'm sure if i met Varg he would be nice.

Then again I'm white.

[–]randywatson666 2 points3 points ago

He would probably be nice if you weren't white too. Most racist white dudes are huge pussies and will only say racist shit if they feel safe. That said, he seemed kinda cool in "Until the Light Takes Us."

[–]mayonesaconservationist 7 points8 points ago

Why would you mention that you're racist to someone outside your race? It means nothing to them and has no relevance except to ruin their lunch. Unless you want to hurt them?

[–]draqza 0 points1 point ago

I don't know... there was that documentary that Louis Theroux did on white power/neo-Nazi groups in the US, and one of them said that if they were not on camera they would've beat him and left him for dead in a ditch. (More or less, anyway, don't remember the exact phrasing.)

(That's "Louis and the Nazis," for anybody interested in finding a copy.)

[–]bradle 4 points5 points ago

I try to give Burzum the benefit of the doubt. I haven't seen one interview with him where they don't bring up his trial. I understand it's a huge deal but it's over. Imagine if all you wanted to do was talk about your music, and every time you go into an interview you just know that one fucking question is coming up.

[–]Pank 12 points13 points ago

then you shouldn't stab someone a bunch of times until they die, i guess

[–]bradle 2 points3 points ago

Can't argue with that, man.

[–]EggnogMan 0 points1 point ago

In his defense, Euronymous was pretty fucked in the head as well, I wouldn't have taken any chances with him. I'd say it was probably the most justified murder of the early BM scene. The racism and church burnings get to me, though.

[–]WolfInTheField 1 point2 points ago

I actually read one, and he was a huge douche all the way through. Apart from the fact that he killed people and allegedly set fire to churches, the man is simply not nice.

[–]Pistolfist 1 point2 points ago

exactly.

[–]bradle 17 points18 points ago

Yeah people love to blame Yoko Ono for the breakup, totally discounting their enormous egos.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points ago

It's easier to blame a woman who makes weird sounds.

[–]JSKlunk 1 point2 points ago

That's racist ;)

[–]bmoviescreamqueen 1 point2 points ago

Oh god thank you. People want to murder me for saying this.

[–]WarHymn -1 points0 points ago

I can't decide which one was the biggest prick.

[–]bmoviescreamqueen 0 points1 point ago

I think all of them are pretty douchey, though I guess Ringo knew to stay low afterwards and I consider him more humble for that.

[–]sonofspermcube 0 points1 point ago

Care to direct me to an example, because I've not encountered this.

Wouldn't surprise me TOO much given where he's from, though.

[–]bradle 2 points3 points ago

Off the top of my head there's the talking shit about Maynard Keenan. Then there's the fact that he can never just let it slide off his back when someone's being a dick at his show.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71tCV3ItTr0

Maybe I'll try and look up some more examples later.

[–]sonofspermcube 0 points1 point ago

Oh...you made it sound worse than that.

[–]bradle 0 points1 point ago

He can be worse, he does a good job of giving amicable answers in a lot of interviews. He can be a dick though.

[–]thesorrow312 4 points5 points ago

HOw I feel about varg and mustaine, except they actually made good music.

[–]DarknessWithin 23 points24 points ago*

Here's a fun story about him. (full story) In another episode played on Metal Injection's podcast he ended an interview with a sentence that makes me believe he's a Thelemite now.

I never cared for Pantera, or Down, but their fans (the very loud obnoxious ones) always react the same way. When someone at some party or get-together discover I like metal (note: I'm female) they automatically assume "Pantera? Slipknot?" only to get offended somehow when I say no. Then followed by a mocking "Who do you like then?" because I obviously fail.

[–]ACE_C0ND0R 9 points10 points ago

Well... who do you like then?

[–]DarknessWithin 21 points22 points ago

ಠ_ಠ Primarily black metal, followed by 90's death metal.

[–]ACE_C0ND0R 1 point2 points ago

I want specific band names.

[–]DarknessWithin 19 points20 points ago

Negura Bunget, Watain, Enslaved, Twilight, Falkenbach, Ascension, Balance Interruption, Forgotten Tomb, Malfeitor, Jungle Rot, Bloodbath, Defleshed, Morgoth.

[–]ManWithFriendlyPenis 3 points4 points ago

Holy crap, somebody knows of Negura Bunget.

[–]mayonesaconservationist 8 points9 points ago

They're kind of well-known man.

[–]ManWithFriendlyPenis 1 point2 points ago

Ah. I wasn't aware of that. I stumbled on them when looking through code666's catalogue a while ago.

Thanks for not being a jumped-up whatchumacallit!

[–]mayonesaconservationist 2 points3 points ago

I'm an out-of-the-closet nerd and have been my whole life.

In the 1990s, Pantera fans waited until I walked by and then said halfway under their breath, faggot.

This ended at a show where a well-known death metal musician hinted that Pantera fans were latent homosexuals.

After that, all I got from the Pantera fans were Valentine cards.

[–]ManWithFriendlyPenis 1 point2 points ago

Heh. I got to know who the "well-known musician" is now.

[–]mayonesaconservationist 1 point2 points ago

There was a Slavic NSBM wave that came after the first couple waves of NSBM. Most of these bands insist they are not NSBM yet the signs are obvious. I guess Walknut, Negura Bunget, Old Wainds and Drudkh are emblematic of this type.

[–]ManWithFriendlyPenis 1 point2 points ago

I never knew NSBM existed. Never heard the term; had to look it up. Some of these guys apparently believe satan is the aryan counterpart to god? I had to laugh. Can't music be just about music? Well, TIL.

[–]fesxvx 0 points1 point ago

Maybe your penis isn't so friendly after all.

[–]ManWithFriendlyPenis 0 points1 point ago

Why, have you met him?

[–]SPna15http://www.last.fm/user/SPna15 3 points4 points ago

oh wow, someone knows about a mildly obscure band that gets a fuckton of praise from lots of sources! AMAZING!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

I know Negura Bunget because I'm Romanian! Fvcking kvlt!

Seriously, though, they're insanely amazing live.

[–]silkforcalde 1 point2 points ago

I know about Negura Bunget because I used to troll a bunch of NSBM fans and Negura Bunget was their holy grail of NSBM.

[–]nadanonehttp://www.last.fm/user/dusiosmarvos 0 points1 point ago

Panopticon?

[–]DarknessWithin 0 points1 point ago

Havent heard of them, will definitely remedy that!

[–]aim5sheek0 5 points6 points ago

After watching a few interview with Trivett Wingo I can't blame Phil for smacking him.

[–]SolomonKull 3 points4 points ago

Phillip.

FTFY

[–]femaiden 10 points11 points ago

I've heard this. Pretty sure it was Trivett from the Sword. Love those guys.

[–]Andromansis[S] 3 points4 points ago

Fuck yea Warp Riders.

[–]BukkakePizzaTRUE METAL WARRIOR 1 point2 points ago

MANOWAR

[–]DarknessWithin 0 points1 point ago

\m/

[–]HaterSalad 15 points16 points ago

To be a great lead vocalist, one has to at least have an occasional douchebag streak, comes with the territory.

[–]cowpowered 59 points60 points ago

Bruce Dickinson

[–]SkeletonPaul 47 points48 points ago

is awesome

[–]medtxpack 39 points40 points ago

in everything he does

[–]rthrtylr 37 points38 points ago

Every minute of every goddamn day.

[–]ninirox 32 points33 points ago

Without beating people up

[–]rthrtylr 27 points28 points ago

Unless it's by the sword.

[–]jady1971 9 points10 points ago

He'll just run you over with his plane.....

[–]sirpasteypete 2 points3 points ago

Or tank.

[–]thiefofsweetrolls 1 point2 points ago

And then bring you back to life.

[–]ninirox -1 points0 points ago

and sing to you FLYYYYYYYYYYY ON YOUR WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY LIKE AN EAAAAAAAGLEEEE

[–]CaidenTheGreat 14 points15 points ago

Hansi Kursch, Matt Barlow, Ronnie James Dio...

[–]BarfingBear 21 points22 points ago

RJD

[–]Bronan_the_Brobarian 1 point2 points ago

He's the nicest guy to his fans, but he did hate the shit out of Vivian Campbell. I meant, he hated him with a passion, for god knows why.

[–]BarfingBear 0 points1 point ago

Viv was completely silent when he passed too. I've read other comments about Viv being a dick, and I'm glad Dio didn't bring out the dirty laundry. It's disappointing because Viv was fuckin' kickass is Sweet Savage and Dio. (I lost all respect for him after he joined Def Leppard, though. Sure, a man's gotta eat, but damn.)

[–]WolfInTheField 1 point2 points ago

May he rest forever in peace.

[–]WarHymn 10 points11 points ago

LSD lead singer disease

[–]HaterSalad 13 points14 points ago

How many lead singers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

[–]deathofthesun 43 points44 points ago

Just one. They hold it in place while the world revolves around them.

[–]HaterSalad 10 points11 points ago

As a lead singer, I am both impressed and offended you got this so quickly.

[–]topright 48 points49 points ago

How do you know someone's a lead singer ?

He'll tell you

[–]HaterSalad 20 points21 points ago

you are definitely in the shadows on the album cover buddy

[–]randywatson666 9 points10 points ago

Danzig comes to mind.

[–]lebeast 14 points15 points ago

I get the impression that Mustaine is kind of a douche too

[–]HaterSalad 13 points14 points ago

What about Hetfield? He kicked Dave's dog!

[–]supergauntlet 20 points21 points ago

Hetfield is probably a douche, but it's outweighed insanely by Lars's douchetardedness.

Seriously, fuck that guy.

[–]OblitusSumMori 11 points12 points ago

I for some reason have a slight inclining of that as well. Hm.

[–]Evilsmurf 1 point2 points ago*

Wow, you think a guy who is so up in his own ass that he refuses to play at a festival on the same day as a band called Rotting Christ because it offends his Christian sensibilities might be a douche? Who knew?

[–]lebeast 0 points1 point ago

yea i was pretty disappointed when he was 'reborn' or whatever, that brings him down a few pegs already in my book

[–]DATZNOTMETULLZ 0 points1 point ago

I don't know. He has some really wacky political/religious views he's not shy about expressing, but I've met/spoken with him a couple of times and he seemed okay. Everyone seems to think he's a douche-bag, and has plenty of anecdotal evidence to back it up, but that doesn't really match up with my experience.

But maybe I just caught him on good days.

[–]Boner420 0 points1 point ago

That would be cool and all, if Phil Anselmo were a great lead vocalist.

[–]mrana 0 points1 point ago

yeah, he sucks so much that he revolutionized metal in the 90's

[–]BarfingBear 0 points1 point ago

Ozzy: Created metal in the 70s. Not a great vocalist.

[–]Boner420 0 points1 point ago

LOL good one! Phil Anselmo revolutionized metal. Classic!

[–]adamd28 7 points8 points ago

Down was the worst concert band I've ever seen live, solely because of Phil Anselmo. They opened for Metallica on the Death Magnetic tour and Anselmo got on stage, called everybody faggots and cocksuckers, bitched when he saw people sitting down, and smashed the mic on his forehead til he bled then walked off the stage like a bitch. Pantera is one of my favorite bands of all time, but that's where I deaw the line with Anselmo. Down is severly overrated and Anselmo is a pompous cock. RIP Dimebag.

[–]Dimethyltrip_to_mars 0 points1 point ago

I saw Down at Voodoo Music Fest in New Orleans three years ago. I only watched their set because there was no other interesting bands playing their timeslot. I have never heard a full Down or Pantera album. Anyhow, what I thought would be a heavy show full of moshing ended up being a tame show frat boy fest with Phil constantly talking about the New Orleans Saints every free moment he wasn't performing a song. Only cool thing during their set was when Phil brought Jello Biafra onstage (JB performed after Down's set), even though the crowd had no idea who Jello was.

[–]sonofspermcube 0 points1 point ago

I remember watching a concert video of Pantera in the early 90s (on the CCTV at my high school, actually) and Phillip Anselmo was clearly HIGH OUT OF HIS MIND. He was staggering around the stage and slurring out the words almost unintelligibly. I mean more than usual. While it was DEFINITELY funny, that isn't what the audience paid to see. I expect a rock musician to be buzzed on stage. I don't expect them to be falling all over themselves.

[–]FlameSama1 7 points8 points ago

Is it Phil that acts like a douche, and inspires douchey fans or douchey fans that inspire Phil to act like a douche?

Either way, love Pantera, like Down/Superjoint, no opinion on Phil as a person, RIP Dimebag.

[–]thesorrow312 11 points12 points ago

Protip: do not party with trailer trash

[–]midnightreign 8 points9 points ago

"He would attack me, vocally. And just knowing that he was so much smaller than me I could kill him like a fuckin' piece of vapor, you know, he would turn into vapor — his chin would, at least, if I fuckin' smacked it. And he knows that. The world should know that. So physically, of course, he deserves to be beaten severely.

"But of course, that's criminal and I won't do such a thing…

Fuck you, Phil. Fuck you forever. You fucking douche.

[–]flyingspaniard70 5 points6 points ago

This statement was made shortly before Dime passed, proves how much of a dick phil is. Dime was nothing but nice to that guy and phil still treated him like shit.

[–]midnightreign 1 point2 points ago

Published shortly before Dime's murder.

...and this is one year later:

"I feel so goddamn bad for Vince [Paul, PANTERA's drummer and Darrell's brother], because during the writing of our last record, [his and Darrell's] mother passed away… I miss Vince. I miss his sense of humor. And Dime — there was no more creative, beautiful, perfect motherfucker ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. He could make something out of nothing — if we were in Bumfuck, Anywhere, he could find some kind of something to do that would end up being fun, you know? And not to mention his music, our music. Dimebag, Vinnie, Rex — they were the greatest, and still are the greatest, musicians I've ever played with. I will always love everybody in that band, man. We had so much chemistry together. I miss it so goddamn much.

Goddamn, I hate Phil Anselmo.

[–]francis_goatman 1 point2 points ago

Enough of this.

Phil was being a rockstar bloated with machismo, which is of course how presents himself to the public and his adoring fans. Was this quote stupid? Of course. And I don't think he's really changed much either, people don't change and everytime I've seen Down recently he came off as a short tool (Phillip falls into Danzig territory, he definitely is way shorter IRL than he appears).

But does he really deserve your hate just because of this quote? NO. This quote doesn't say SHOOT DIMEBAG, and if you understand the mentality of two dudes like Phil and Dimebag trading verbal barbs, this falls in line with what they would say to each other before they hug it out. I've seen trailer trash dudes do this with each other all the time, friends talking shit on each other because they're mad. It's their mentality.

And BTW: Vinnie and Dimebag talked just as much shit about Phil. Phil had a heroin problem, V & D were big alcoholics. Look, we'll never know what really happened, but there's two sides to every story.

[–]eltuskio91 6 points7 points ago

I've almost hit someone for sayin BMTH where more talented than Metallica. but as a huge Pantera and Down fan, i could see why people would hold that opinion. ahwell, music causes friction.

[–]moddestmouse 9 points10 points ago

why are you talking to pre-teen girls?

[–]eltuskio91 2 points3 points ago

I could have been, it was hard to tell through all that fringe.

[–]jady1971 3 points4 points ago

From what I have been told he used to be a real nice guy around Pantera's 1st couple albums but opiate addiction then took over......

Anyone strung out on opiates is a douche........it's the nature of the beast.

[–]hybridmoments04 5 points6 points ago

ya fuck that guy and fuck those three douche monsters who jumped you. its kind of a known fact that phil anselmo is a prick.

[–]SPEMason 6 points7 points ago

Am I the only one who assumed that Phil Anselmo did the jumping?

[–]mayonesaconservationist 3 points4 points ago

He was just trying to get laid the only way he knows.

[–]robbykills 5 points6 points ago

No

[–]kapow_crash__bang 2 points3 points ago

it was actually Phil and 2 Phil Anselmo impersonators.

[–]Wakka37 5 points6 points ago

I could believe it. On a sidenote, I like cannibal corpse a lot. If someone told me they think corpsegrinder is a douche bag, I'd let it go

[–]andrewsmith1986 24 points25 points ago

Corpsegrinder is a really nice guy and alex webster may be the nicest guy I have ever met.

[–]destroyeraseimprove 10 points11 points ago

All I know about corpsegrinder is that he had a number of maxed level WoW characters

Awesome

edit: he seems like a cool guy

[–]andrewsmith1986 8 points9 points ago

You need to reverse the link.

I met them all three times.

Alex remembered me.

[–]eltuskio91 3 points4 points ago

"corpsegrinder is a really nice guy" sounds like a line off a sketch about a rebellious youth that lives with his nan...

[–]Nergal 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, Alex Webster is really nice, and loves interacting with the fans.

[–]Wakka37 2 points3 points ago

That's what I've always heard about them but I was just using them as an example. It just seems a little extreme to beat someone down because he has an opinion of someone that he or the thugs that jumped him have never met before.

[–]andrewsmith1986 13 points14 points ago

This doesn't really have anything to do with this but I wanted to chime in.

One night in a bar a guy and I got to talking about ICP and such for about 20-30 minutes.

When I was leaving the bar 4 guys went to jump me. (no clue who they were or what I did to provoke them)

Out of no where, the ICP guy jumps in and straight up regulates 3 of them and he and I are standing there for a second and he says "Juggalos everywhere you go" and disappeared into the parking lot.

While I know that everyone hates ICP fans, I will always defend them because not all of them are bad, just the ones that get filmed and are popular on youtube.

[–]Wakka37 9 points10 points ago

ICP fans, crazy motherfuckers. We had a band of them at my high school. They were nice to you if you were nice to them. Some rednecks called them a bunch of fags one day and it was an all out war. ICP kids won the fight and they weren't bothered again.

I had an art class my freshman tear of high school with a juggalo. He would criticize every single CD I ever listened to in class. One day I told him that all of the clown-related groups are terrible, and he grabbed a butter knife and tried to stab me in the arm 6 or 7 times. Never broke skin, but it hurt quite a lot.

[–]ninfan200 3 points4 points ago

there are way worse groups than ICP anyways, not a fan or anything but they have a couple funny songs

[–]andrewsmith1986 17 points18 points ago

They are the weird al of rap without the talent getting in their way.

[–]Mastaffah 0 points1 point ago

I went to the meet and greet at the 2007(?) sounds of the underground and met the dudes from cannibal corpse (among others). Walking away I was fairly certain that they're at least as big of fans of their supporters as their supporters are of the band.

CC are one of the most pro DM outfits in existence. I've seen them live multiple times. Always a superb set and great musicianship. The couple times I've had a chat with a member or given them a thumbs up or a fist bump or whatever they've always been friendly and open.

I've always dug their music. But it makes it so much better that they are a downright excellent operation and nice dudes. This sort of thing isn't even hard! There is no reason to be a dick to fans. Unless you need to defend yourself from dickhead fans.

[–]andrewsmith1986 1 point2 points ago

I absolutely agree.

I've seen em 3 times.

Always excellent, always kind.

[–]bmoviescreamqueen 1 point2 points ago

I severely dislike Cannibal Corpse but Corpsegrinder is really cool.

[–]Andromansis[S] 1 point2 points ago

I think that if he is that busy shouting about how Alliance sucks... it will be more difficult for the Alliance to notice me sneaking up behind them with my Rogue.

[–]rjc999x 7 points8 points ago

And why do you think he is a douchebag?

[–]SemiSeriousSam 16 points17 points ago

He's an uneducated redneck junkie who thinks he's hot shit. You do the math.

[–]Andromansis[S] 2 points3 points ago

Happy Cakeday to you.

[–]Pank 6 points7 points ago

Because he's in Pantera

[–]nateschumacher 27 points28 points ago

Love Pantera. Can't stand most Pantera fans.

[–]rjc999x 0 points1 point ago

and?

[–]sarcasmosis 1 point2 points ago

He spits on photographers and throws bottles at audiences. I could give you some hearsay stuff as well, but that's what I've seen.

Phil is cool, his music is great.. but the man comes off as kind of an asshole. Just that over-saturated ego thing. Not that he's a bad guy.. just a dick. I'd probably get my ass kicked there too.

[–]kingkevz 4 points5 points ago

i got to meet phil on a down tour in NJ... he was the absolute nicest guy.. i couldnt believe it.. from what i had heard he was an ass, but he was awesome! i have an "unscarred" tattoo... and i asked him to autograph over it.. he idd... and i told him i was gonna get it tattooed... he said "no fuckin way man", i then had gone out to LA to visit some friends, and down was playing in LA.. i showed up.. he spotted me, remembered me BY NAME... asked if i actually did it... showed him.. and we hung out for a few more hours just bullshitting. totally awesome dude now that he's off dope. when he plays ny now.. he will ALWAYS say hi to me if he sees me at a show.

[–]MsgGodzilla 2 points3 points ago

I thought this was common knowledge? Of course Phil is a douche. The one time I saw him live he got all fussy on stage because he got booed for saying racist shit and then called us all faggots and stormed out. This was at fucking Ozzfest no less.

[–]MetalGuitarist 2 points3 points ago

I saw Down when they opened for Metallica a few years ago... Phil broke the mic with his face by repeatedly smashing it into his head during the set.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

That's not surprising. Anyone that is truly meta could probably break it with just one head smash.

[–]EviLiu 2 points3 points ago

He's a legend and a douche.

[–]mAge_SlayeR 5 points6 points ago

Say it agin faget n i'll beat ur fukin ass... at nintendo.

[–]Fancy_Top_Hat 4 points5 points ago

No wayyyy. Everytime I listen to Superjoint I think to myself "a real class act made this song." Still love everything he's done for the last 20 years. Most musicians are dicks but it wont stop me from rocking out.

[–]TechnoEquinox 4 points5 points ago

I respect your opinion. I will not jump you. TechnoEquinox for prez.

[–]seth11111 1 point2 points ago

Damn, that sucks. Phil really is an asshole. Regardless, I'm still a fan of his work, and he's kind enough to share the stage at Superjoint shows.

[–]Jagerette 1 point2 points ago

He's a douche but a talented douche... lol

[–]thecowisfat 0 points1 point ago

Honest opinion ... Phil seems like a way cooler guy then Vinnie does these days.

[–]moarbutterythantoast 0 points1 point ago

If getting so drunk on stage that you collapse, puke everywhere and completely ruin the show counts as being a douchebag, then yes he is a douchebag

his music aint bad though

[–]pajamaspam 1 point2 points ago

I have no opinion on Phil Anselmo because I have never met him. As for the racist remarks, from all the information and song lyrics (No Good (Attack the Radical) off of Vulgar Display of Power), I find this to be groundless. Phil has stated that he has friends of all colors simply he finds a problem with there being that "insert race here" pride and possibly some of the reverse racism that accompanies that since he is white. It's kind of like Morgan Freeman's take on Black History month.

[–]Led-Zeppelin 0 points1 point ago

Ah, he's a little rough around the edges, but he's a good guy. Plus all of his music is great. You gotta remember that every famous person has their moments. If your famous you've always got people meeting you and expecting only the absolute best, and if they catch you at a bad time or you don't live up to their expectations to a T then you are automatically a douche. This coming from a hardcore Pantera/Down fan.

On a side note, fuck the guys who jumped you. Pantera's my favorite band, second being Down, but I'd never beat someone up over something that trivial. If you like something or someone, why would you give a fuck if someone else doesn't? You're not them and they're not you.

[–]MuteSecurity 1 point2 points ago

cool story bro

[–]fragilemind 0 points1 point ago

Maybe it's just me, but saying anyone is a douchebag just to say it, is a pretty arrogant thing to do. I'm really not surprised that some fans would start a fight over such a small comment, and it seems to me that these people probably found it rude to say it in the first place. Phil may be a dick, but who gives a shit. There are far too many pricks, famous or not in this world where no matter how you speak of them, good or bad, you feed their massive egos. Not worth getting beaten up for, not worth saying it in the first place. A completely confrontational statement that could perhaps be about anyone. If you're around the wrong people, you're bound to get a little shit from another person.

If he was a dick to you, when you were being polite, that sucks, assholes who jump people over things like this suck too. but who hasn't been disappointed this way before? Life is full of jerks, no sense in egging them on.
