ELIC: How does a refrigerator work? (self.ExplainLikeImCalvin)

Each refrigerator comes with a colony of small animals, which hide when the door is opened. This colony is called a "Freon".
When the door is closed, they run back and forth through the pipes in the back, to a nearby air conditioner, where they take a deep breath of air, then run back into the refrigerator and exhale. If they run quick enough, it keeps the food cool.
Every once in a while, they take a break to eat and drink some of the food... which is why you can sometimes hear sounds like gurgling, slurping, and grinding.
If they pee, it kills them, so they have to hold it their whole lives to stay alive. When they can't hold it any longer, the colony dies, the refrigerator warms up, and this is what the experts call a "Freon leak".

A refrigerator works by taking all of the frozen items you buy at a store and put in the freezer, and cools the other things fridge. This is why you hear people say it is much more efficient to have a full freezer.

And how does the freezer stay cold? Glad you asked Calvin!
You will learn in science that when something gets warm, it is actually an endothermic reaction that is cooling it's surroundings. So the stuff in the fridge actually powers the freezer to keep it cool!
