one moment that stands out is when i was visiting a church but instead of a sermon (that i was really looking forward to) they did baptisms all morning, prob about 10 people or so. it was a standard baptism and each person gave their testimony. i listened and when the baptisms were finished, we sang chris tomlin's amazing grace - my chains are gone. i was in tears as well as grown men. it was amazing how something as simple as a testimony and baptism of a person effected us all and our faith.

The first time I went to a Protestant service after converting away from being Roman Catholic for my whole life.

I had loved God so much, but I never got anything out of Catholic service, but the second the Protestant service started I was just filled with the love of Christ, I felt like God was standing there, right next to me, with his arm around my shoulder...I'm almost crying just thinking about it.

The amount of love and joy I found can not be described... :')

It is tiring, half of r/Christianity are intolerant atheists.

[–]MTRsport 1 point2 points ago

In their defense, a lot of them are probably American and American Atheists have reason to be intolerant because a lot of Americans are intolerant Christians

[–]lemonpjb 0 points1 point ago

So they should take out their frustrations on a smaller group of internet strangers who may or may not be American and who also are largely tolerant of them and their subreddit, right?

One night I felt God calling me to go and fast in the open air for a week, and I did. I felt a revelation of him and his presence, salvation, and will for my life, that it still affects my daily life.

Lessee...Seeing that TFR has a real DRIVE and DESIRE to desecrate Christ, I think he is unfortunately burdened with an affliction he has no control over (although he thinks he does). Perhaps something similar to the ones that are chronicled in Mark 3:1-7, or Mark 3:10-12, Mark 3:28-29, or Mark 4:12...anyone have any thoughts on this?? TFR??

This moment, when I look at the words of a certain respondant to nearly every comment on the thread, and read the fear woven throughout them.

This moment, realising that the love of Christ is available to me, right now.

Thank you, TheFinalResistance, your resistance is not final, you are not finality, but shall come instead to know Love, true love, which surpasses limited humanity.

Transcendence shall be yours, who fancies him/herself such a maverick and freethinker, who supposes to blaspheme the name of God, to blaspheme - from French blasmer, to blame, you blame God and rightly so, He took responsibility for all these things you deplore, the work of mankind.

The filth and the pain and the suffering of mankind He took on himself, He took yours, you are as a child lifting its dress or speaking back to its parents, you have nothing to fear and I pray for you, that you will learn this.

Prayed for a friend's brother in a coma and "knew" that moment he was healed. I was a Presby at the time and thought prayer was more of a duty than could change things, but I was so inclined to boldly state the feeling to my brothers and sisters that were there...and was right. My jaw dropped (when we learned the news later, that he had been healed that very hour) and I have never been the same. The same thing happened when a relative of mine was prayed for that was in similar shape -- I didn't believe that God would have mercy for me and the people that i loved --I was OK with that. But when I saw that miracle I knew how much he loved me, and I can never be shaken.

The book that changed my life was the week I spent reading "The Cost of Discipleship" by Deitrich Bonnhoeffer (long ago) - it was only then I realized how most of us read the Bible but really don't believe or act on anything Christ says at face value.

The Sermon that changed my life was one given by Tony Campolo long ago. (his words about the eagle at Wannemakers in Philadelphia still haunt me ...in a good way). He (God through him) is the reason i am a scientist and not a lawyer, and that God called me to be so. My success as a scientist over the last 15-20 years only testifies to God's power, and many of my peers are confused, confounded, and sometimes jealous of it. "I" have discovered things that I hope will change the world...and I know that God spoke them to me :)

[–]Shimbouzi 0 points1 point ago

But is it right to interpret any part of the bible at face value (not defending top parent comment)? I'm not saying the entire bible as a whole, but if i were to look at Matthew 22:37-39"love neighbor as self", for instance, most would immediately take it at face value. But compared to the verse Matthew 5:38 "eye for an eye", it seems like they would conflict.

TFR...the fact of the matter was that I prayed together and in solidarity (hand in hand) with my brothers and sisters...those very same of which I later notified how I felt. It was natural (and I believe now the will of God) to tell them what I felt after I prayed with them. I being the skeptic myself was never before inclined to ever do so in any setting.

Regarding Matt 10:34-37...I love those verses, and yes they can be taken at face value if you understand what "face value" means and what the greek/aramaic is saying...you might want to start with looking up the greek word "phileo". I'm sure you have some other verses you would rather "cherry pick" besides those.

As for schizophrenia etc. I find it quite laughable that you conform to those I made mention of. God speaks to a lot of people, and I know He speaks to me (and I have seen the evidence of Him speaking to others for sure). If he hasn't "spoken" to you, perhaps its because you refuse to listen or to take Him at face value .... As for the worth of your words, I will let eternity have its say about that... as well as any accomplishments that I have made here that defy your logic. Your hypocritical judging (as if you have any defined ground that we should hold dear to judge with...in fact, you may want to brush up with James 4:1-12 my friend) speaks volumes of your disdain for the work of the Holy Spirit in people's lives. I am honored to have channeled The Scandalon for you...

I've seen a few miracle healings, they're always pretty powerful. As for me personally I've had a lot of prayer for an 11 year headache from countless pastors, more so me being able to feel Him within me as a result. It always blows me away.

[–]JoePrey 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Could you please describe one of these instances of healing? Also is it possible to describe what its like to feel Him within you? If so could you?

[–]Sheps11 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The most recent healing was someone's leg visibly being straightened/lengthened. Sounds odd when written down, but everything came back a-okay from the doctor in that instance.

As for what it feels like to to have Him/His power inside you, it's different for each person obviously. The easiest way to explain it for me - in a physical sense - is an overwhelming warmth inside of me, sometimes I'll visible shake and have a drastically increased heart rate. It's still more than that though, but it is kinda hard to comprehend, let alone try and put to words.

Being confined to a wheelchair is a minor problem?? You're honestly going to tell me that it is not as big of deal as a person without a leg? I don't know why God doesn't make legs grow back, but He has provided us with the knowledge to help those people live normal lives. Sometimes the "healing" doesn't mean going back to how you were before the accident/birth defect/disease. It means being able to live a great life with what you have or don't have. Ever watch Soul Surfer? I highly recommend it

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Okay, wait.... wait. You are saying that 1) Not being able to walk is not as bad as having one functioning leg. 2) People who are healed from being in a wheel chair really never had a problem. 3) People in a wheelchair who were healed had given up trying to find help. 4) People healed in a wheelchair can heal themselves by having the motivation.

Wow. Those are all extremely rude assumptions. Have you been in that situation? Where do you get the idea that they can just get up and walk by wanting to?

He has?

Uh, yeah. We now know how to make the most amazing prosthetics for amputees that allow them to do what everyone else can. That's why God gave us the intelligence He did. So we can help each other, like we're called to do.

Whatever you think you've figured out, I can tell you that you're fooling yourself. I'm not "trying" anything. This is a fact. "Healing" doesn't only mean physically being perfect. It's quite narrow minded to say that it does.
