Funeral by Arcade Fire

[–]EgosNest 14 points15 points ago

Graceland by Paul Simon is my all-time favourite album; it makes me happy from beginning to end.

There are almost no albums out there in which there are no songs I won't skip through (that's a lot of negations - sorry)

[–]Raye_Penber 0 points1 point ago

The title track is like aural opiates.

[–]katushkin 19 points20 points ago

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf

[–]hamkitteh 4 points5 points ago

It's just one of those albums isn't it..

I can go for months without even listening to one single song off of that record, and then as soon as that Millionaire riff kicks in, it's on!

[–]OG_Willikers 1 point2 points ago

One of the best rock bands ever but NO ONE KNOWS. Their first album may (self titled) might still be my favorite. I go back and forth between the two. Amazing band.

[–]DoogieBrowser 2 points3 points ago

Grohl was a BEAST on the drums on this album! My favorite musician of all time.

[–]zombiesatthebeach 0 points1 point ago

I agree. Song for the dead is amazing. I love the drum tracks

[–]LegenD00M 1 point2 points ago

I'm more of a Josh Homme fan in general. Basically anything he does is awesome. i.e. Eagles of Death Metal, The Desert Sessions, Them Crooked Vultures.

[–]fulldisclosure 8 points9 points ago

Americana.

[–]schadenfreude- 9 points10 points ago

Fevers and Mirrors by Bright Eyes

[–]Del_Felesif 0 points1 point ago

There aren't very many Bright Eyes songs I dislike. A couple are just o.k.

[–]Plastic_Tramp 9 points10 points ago

Rubber Soul!

[–]joyjoyjoyjoy 8 points9 points ago

Joy Division- Unknown Pleasures

[–]AnswersInLyrics 14 points15 points ago

In these Demon Days It's so cold inside. So hard for a good soul to survive.

[–]LegenD00M 1 point2 points ago

I do love me some Gorillaz. One of the most original bands out there in my opinion.

[–]ssjaken 2 points3 points ago

I am a diehard sub division member. I live Gorillaz but I am worried Damon is starting to become the pop culture artist they created Gorillaz to take down.

[–]zombiesatthebeach 0 points1 point ago

This album was the first album to get me into actual music. I fucking love it.

[–]davidlen 13 points14 points ago

Pink Moon - Nick Drake

[–]schotastic 0 points1 point ago

I agree, but I love his first album even more.

[–]Raye_Penber 0 points1 point ago

Now we rise. And we are everywhere

[–]mr92 7 points8 points ago

The '59 Sound - The Gaslight Anthem, played every song on that album at least 150 times on my laptop alone, should be closer to 300 if you include listening to them on my phone

[–]RowsdowerSavesUs 2 points3 points ago

This was seriously a fantastic album. Their first effort was good, but 59' Sound completely blew it out of the water.

[–]mr92 1 point2 points ago

What did you think of American Slang? I know lots of people who feel that it wasn't punk-y enough for them but I really liked the more blues-y songs like Bring It On and Diamond Church Street Choir.

Can't wait for the new album :)

[–]Streetcreditt 5 points6 points ago

O.K. Computer

[–]dwc1970 18 points19 points ago

Not a complete list, but the first to come to mind:

  • Black Sabbath - Paranoid
  • Led Zeppelin- I, IV, Houses of the Holy
  • Metallica - Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All
  • Pearl Jam - Ten
  • Rush - Moving Pictures (actually, most Rush albums)
  • Stone Temple Pilots - Core
  • Tool - Lateralus
  • Yes - Fragile

[–]General_Specific 6 points7 points ago

I would love a party at your house.

[–]Neoflare 0 points1 point ago

You described most of my current playlist. I only listen to music by the entire album and have every single one of those on my normal rotation.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points ago

A bit old school, but for me it has always been "London Calling" by The Clash.

[–]SimilarSimian 0 points1 point ago

Can't believe I forgot to say The Clash dagnammit. Love the mustapa dance version of Rock the Casbah. Not that the original isn't amazing.

[–]aves2k 7 points8 points ago

The National - High Violet

Even the expanded version.

[–]Shakedown_1979 6 points7 points ago*

I know that hating U2 is almost as common as hating Nickelback on Reddit, but I think that The Joshua Tree is one of the only albums I can listen to without wanting to skip a song. About half of the songs on that album are some of U2's greatest hits, while the other half are obscure but equally amazing tracks that remain somewhat of a hidden treasure in my opinion. The only song on the album that I'm not really crazy about is "Trip Through Your Wires," but even that isn't a bad song.

Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins is also a consistently great album. Again, there's probably about one song that I usually skip when listening to it, but that's definitely more than I can say for most albums.

[–]baconisokay 2 points3 points ago

came here to upvote The Joshua Tree. At least I still hate Nickelback, right?

[–]selfabortion 0 points1 point ago

I think it's more conventional to hate U2 after they became all pop-kitsch and garbagey

[–]MyNameIsChar 6 points7 points ago

The Best of Jackson Browne

Probably the best album I've ever listened to, actually.

[–]zsoltika 5 points6 points ago

Recently: Kate Bush - 50 words for snow.

Not so recently: almost every Queen and David Bowie albums.

[–]LegendOfAiur 6 points7 points ago

frank zappa roxy & elsewhere, brilliant album funky, jazzy and bluesy!!

[–]RGT42[S] 1 point2 points ago

That description makes it sound awesome. I'll check that out.

[–]General_Specific 6 points7 points ago

When all we had were records and cassettes, albums in their entirety were way more important. So, any band that I liked from back then, I liked their entire records.

For a modern example, I would say The Decemberists, Hazards of Love.

[–]The_Lobbyist 0 points1 point ago

Fantastic album, and one where you get the extra benefit of a wonderful story if you listen straight through.

[–]ImTheBawsss 0 points1 point ago

The King Is Dead is fantastic too... and The Crane Wife... Really just anything Decemberists.

[–]tacstix 3 points4 points ago

Magical Mystery Tour (The Beatles), Sam's Town (The Killers), Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays (Jimmy Buffett)

[–]warzander 4 points5 points ago

Third Eye Blind

[–]jimsaysdoitthisway 7 points8 points ago

Only three, and I suspect two won't be so popular with Reddit, but here goes:

Boxcutter- Glyphic Aphex Twin- Selected Ambient Works 85-92 Led Zeppelin- IV

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

IV has always been my favorite Led Zeppelin album...a classic.

[–]WillyRoger 0 points1 point ago

Boxcutter is lovely

[–]selfabortion 0 points1 point ago

Why would you think any of those would be unpopular with reddit??

[–][deleted] ago

Radiohead - Kid A. I even love "Treefingers", despite it being an ambient bit of almost-nothingness. I love every song, from the opening tense electronica of "Everything In Its Right Place", through the haunting and elegiac "How To Disappear Completely" and the brutal DnB of "Idioteque". I know liking Radiohead is hardly an unpopular opinion on the Internet (shall I fuck off back to /r/circlejerk for my SO BRAVEs?) but I could listen to that album forever and not get bored. It's a true work of genius.

Also, and this will perhaps not be a popular choice, Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster. The more I listen to it the more I realise it's an absolutely perfect pop record while also being probably one of the most terrified, dark and claustrophobic-sounding records to ever get into the mainstream. A drastic improvement on The Fame, that makes it all the more galling she couldn't keep up that level of quality for her third effort (I despise that fucking album with a powerful vengeance, with the exception of "The Edge Of Glory").

[–]schotastic 1 point2 points ago

When I listen to Kid A, I turn shuffle mode off.

I used to love Linkin Park as a teenager. The live album with Jay-Z was awesome.

[–]RGT42[S] 2 points3 points ago*

I have about four or five of these but my favorite is probably For Emma, Forever Ago. I can't get enough of it. Same with the Blood Bank ep.

I've been told In Rainbows is fantastic so I'm going to give that a try. I've never listened to Radiohead for some reason.

[–]shoopaloop 6 points7 points ago

Weezer the blue album

[–]amagiciannamed_gob 0 points1 point ago

In Rainbows is a good place to start! It's an excellent album and probably their most accessible. It may take a couple of listens to sink in, though--it did for me.

Ok so before I answer, all can go ahead and hate on me for saying Discovery (Interstella5555) which is on of the most popular albums as made by a commonly known band but fuck it. I can listen to that straight through over and over again while its beauty and edge matched with eloquent subject matter/poetry and amount of crazy music theory/physics always blows my mind and helps me transcend towards better piece of mind
