When I was in grade four the pinnacle of cool was having a pack of raw ramen noodles in your lunch to munch on at recess.

I also enjoy raw ramen.

Ramen chips! Sprinkle a little seasoning on top, delicious. :D

[–]em_son 1 point2 points ago

Everyone did that at my elementary school. Ah, the joy of crunching every last noodle into oblivion, then dusting that salty flavor packet all over the noodles...I'm pretty sure I ate more ramen that way than by actually boiling it.

[–]Lavarocked 1 point2 points ago

Literally every kid in Hawaii does that.

[–]MainStorm 0 points1 point ago

I'm thinking this has become popular since there's now a Korean snack that's transliterated to "break, break" that's essentially broken up pieces of raw ramen.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I started doing this after seeing a woman munching on some raw ramen while she was waiting for the water to boil in a Japanese movie. Short time after, I tried it and was in aww that it tasted damn good :D

I logged in just to say that pickled herring is fucking delicious. My boyfriend is normally pretty adventurous with food, but he couldn't handle this stuff. I think it's one of the best foods, ever. I tried ceviche thinking it would be along similar lines but it was barely edible.

[–]frostflowers 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Do it. I personally don't eat pickled herring (I'm not too fond of fish in general), but the sour cream+hot potatoes combo is the traditional Swedish way to do it. Also, put some chives in the sour cream.

I eat isterband. I guess that's pretty weird? And pea soup with pork - and pancakes for dessert (traditionally on Thursdays).

Tuna, eggs and rice. You mix the tuna and eggs and make a patty on the stove. Then eat it with rice with soy sauce on it. I don't think it's weird, probably because I grew up with it. But all my friends think it's weird.

[–]ladiesfortruthiness 1 point2 points ago

Tuna Patties! I always kind of assumed that my mom invented them 'cause I've never met anybody else who ate them.

Rice. Soy Sauce. Yes. Maybe a little sesame oil in the rice. Then, for the kicker, take a little scoop of rice and a little chunk of patty, and wrap 'em in a little sheet of seaweed (the kind that goes around sushi). DIY bite-sized Asian fajitas.

I don't like tomato sauce, so I eat pizza without it. It's astounding how "WTF" or just...straight up angry people get when I say this. Normally they end up saying it's just bread with toppings...which is what pizza is anyways.

edit: Specified "tomato sauce"

[–]PabloEdvardo 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You're basically eating focaccia bread (which is made with pizza dough).

Originally pizza didn't have a sauce (or even cheese) either, so all pizza comes from focaccia in a way.

I've had pizza that was made with garlic butter, which I liked a lot. I'm also a fan of ranch-chicken pizza. It's mostly the taste instead of the whole sauce thing. I should have specified, I guess.

I do this weird thing with pizza.

First, I remove the outside crust and use that to slide off the toppings and most of the sauce. Then I eat the outside crust. Then I have the delicious under crust. Then I have a pile of toppings, ripe for harvest.

That is the way to eat pizza.

I love stories like this!

When I was younger I loved plain cheeseburgers from McDonalds. You know how there are 4 corners of cheese poking out? Well first I'd take 4 bites from the parts where there wasn't cheese poking out, leaving a sort of cross shape left...then I'd break off all the cheese corners and eat the middle bit of the burger that remained... then I'd arrange the corner bits in order of 'amount of cheese sticking out' and eat the pieces in ascending order of size of bit of cheese.

I like to just dip pieces of salami right in the ol' mayo jar.

Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. The pickles are sliced, sweet/bread & butter pickles. Peanut butter has to go on both slices of bread. Jif works best.

I love pickled herring, but I'm afraid to bring it in my lunch at work because people will make fun of me.

EDIT: North Dakotan Norwegian tradition

Vienna sausages. It must be a Newfie thing, because that what all my relatives in Nfld eat. They are gross, mushy, and barely a step above cat food... but around once a month I crack a can open. Salty deliciousness.

Me too. But they have to be Libby, because Hormel vienna sausages are disgusting!

One time I mixed peppermint chunks, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.

Don't ever try it.

There's a very funny scene in Lee Iacocca's autobiography from when he was a child. He bragged to some of his schoolmates that his family had had pizza for dinner the night before. They wanted to know, what's pizza? He told them it was like a pie, but made with tomatoes. They didn't like the sound of that at all.

Being Vietnamese, a lot of things i eat are considered "weird". fertilized duck egg, jellyfish, congealed blood (huyet), duck blood "pizza" (thich canh), silkworm pupae, cow tongue/eye/heart/brain.. (pretty much all of the cow).

As a kid, i used to put peanut M&Ms in my pb&j sandwiches. that was always awesome.

My friend recently got me addicted to eating uncooked spaghetti. There's little to no flavor and it's probably not all that great for your teeth, but I just keep chomping on it.....oh boy.

Raw meat, any kind. Raw chicken, raw pork (especially bacon), raw beef. If its minced and seasoned its that much better.

Also, hotdogs dipped in creamcheese. Don't hate til you try it!

Oh yes, and you can't forget sliced pickles covered in cheddar cheese and microwaved until the cheese is slightly hard. Mmmm...

When I was a kid, dad turned me onto Ritz Crackers dipped in Miracle Whip. Don't knock it until you've tried it. I've had that as a snack at least twice a month for 25 years.

Spaghetti Omelette. Some cooked noodles, tomato chopped up with some spices and a few eggs in a frying pan. Had them a bunch when I lived in Africa, they are fantastic.

Solidified (congealed?) cow blood, cow tongue, cow intestine, pig's feet, and dandelion leaves come up in my recent memory.

People often ask me how I can eat this stuff and I have one simple solution: don't ask what it is you're eating.

All sorts of raw vegetables. I just eat `em straight. One of my friends parents' still call me "cabbage boy" because they once saw me go to the fridge, grab an entire raw cabbage, and start eating it like an apple. I didn't think it was that weird until I started living with roommates. My family does this crap all the time.

Hungry? Grab some vegetables and fucking eat the shit out of `em.

(Almost all greek people do:) Watermelon with feta : the best summer dinner ever.

I also personally eat any "raw" dough/pastry/pita/whatever until I can't take it any more. A personal favourite is to buy frozen (greek) cheesepie and eat them as cheese + dough icecream :D

Other than that, raw fish/meat (see japanese/french cuisine) and so on.
