It can't hurt IF you can do a good job with a tailored letter. It might just help your resume get noticed among the crowed. Any edge is a good thing. Try a few and if you're happy with it go for it. If after a half a dozen trys or so and you think they all suck. Use the standard resume cover letter. Trust your instincts on whether or not they are suitable. It's OK to be a little harsh on yourself with this.

I have a follow up question, would you say it's proper for me to go to a job fair advertising 2 years experience required? I was thinking I should go and get my name out since it's hiring managers going.

Damn straight go. You're researching just what they want in a hire if nothing else. Bring some prepared resumes with vanilla cover letters too. Now every job wants 2-4 years experience for an entry level job so this is what you've got to do to get noticed and you won't be the only person there without the required experience either. The current state of the job market means these things will have far more applicants than jobs. So don't get your hopes up. This is a learning experience that you might get lucky at.

How this change of requiring experience for a low paying entry lever jobs ever got started is beyond me. Most places with any new hire want you to forget how things were done on your last job and do it their way. So they're going to train you anyway.

It must be the feeling they're going to get quality hard workers, But the req. is bullshit and to over look people just because they've never done some menial task before is stupid and short sighted. This stupid 2 years experience for every entry level job is happening all across the US. in every industry and it's overlooking some of the most motivated people. You're going to prove this requirement is unnecessary. Go with some confidence and go get a job.

If possible, try to tailor the letter to a specific department(s) that you are most interested in. This might require a bit more knowledge of the company than they put on their website, though. But that will at least show the company you have an idea of what you're interested in and not just blindly applying everywhere.
