You are an amazing human for what you are doing for that dog. I don't have anything to give up a single vote of karma, but believe me when i say I wish I could upvote this 1 million times

[–]Pirage 5 points6 points ago

Completely agree. The sad part is that I probably wouldn't know what to do when I saw one or what to feed him or if I should bring him to a vet or ... I'm just glad you did :)

[–]Touching_Cloth 17 points18 points ago

Oh christ. That middle picture on the bottom is the greatest thing!

I rescued an abused pit puppy a short while back but he had apparently already contracted Parvo or some such. As we were fattening him up, he stopped eating and died pretty quickly. So sad. I'm glad your guy is doing great!

Get them vaccinations, yo!

The most awesome person ever! Thank you for being so wonderful! It would be nice if we could all afford to save at least one baby. He looks amazing.

IN West Philadelphia, born and raised. 30 pounds in six weeks is what I gained...

[–]Cueball61 7 points8 points ago

This is one of those scenarios where you can take them in guilt free, since even if they aren't a stray, the owners sure as hell shouldn't be keeping him.

[–]scififaninphx 16 points17 points ago

God bless you, friend.

[–]justifer 4 points5 points ago

Thank you for rescuing that poor/innocent animal!!! I wish I could rescue them all!

It's so great to see what love and care can do. Wonderful outcome ... thanks for posting. :)

[–]Kolish 7 points8 points ago

I'd love to do this for a stray, but I feel I would somehow do something wrong.

When you brought him in, when did you feel it was appropriate to bathe him? How much food did you start him off with, and did you progressively give him more? Did you feel it was appropriate to introduce him to your other pets immediately, or keep him in a room to himself?

Some enlightenment on how you did this kind gesture would be very appreciative.

My approach after we recovered a cat who'd gone missing and turned up on the other side of town living in a barn was: take him to the vet, do whatever the vet says.

Given that they'll need a checkover for fleas, worms and general disease-y stuff, the vet can let you know about refeeding etc.

[–]knockknockneo 0 points1 point ago

This is true, but if you bring in an animal over the weekend and can't get to the vet for a day or two, when you do feed, don't let them go balls out. Being that deprived from food and then having a buffet of chow will make them incredibly sick. You'll need to feed small amounts every 2 hours or so and just watch over the animal until you get vet advice.

This is amazing! 6 Weeks ago I found a kitten starving and only 2 pounds and very underweight, now six weeks later, hes 6 pounds and overweight for his age (a couple months old ), The vet told me to stop feeding him so much :)

[–]Cantras 3 points4 points ago

He just looks like "Oh god, this is so so good, i am so so happy" in all the pictures. Like someone else said, rescued dogs know they were rescued.

Rescued dogs rock after they've adjusted. I'm convinced that they understand they have been rescued, and they are forever grateful.

I've seen a couple of dogs (and a shit-ton of cats, but I'm deathly allergic so I care less about them) wandering the streets of West Philly where I work as a teacher. Every time I see a dog I get really upset that someone either doesn't care enough to make sure they're not wandering the street, or they're not part of a family at all. Unfortunately, I take the El to work (and have a husband who is a germaphobe and thinks everything in Philly is covered in cockroaches), or I would take every last one of them home.

I'm thankful for people like you that will be the saviors of these dogs that I just want to make sure are okay. Thank you for making me feel better about not being able to love each one of them on my own.

[–]foreveralone86 2 points3 points ago

The top photos make me want to cry. I live outside of Philly and the pitbull throw-away population in this area is ungodly high. Props to you for taking care of this little guy.
