What needs to be posted is where the pup was purchased (if she was). Everyone needs to know so they don't buy an animal from the breeder, rescue or store.

Shouldn't you be doing more preparing for court? You have a court date coming up in March. I suggest you fill your plastic bins to the brim with your 'evidence' against your alleged abuser. The one you filed a domestic violence restraining order against. The one who has never been to your residence or even in your town.

I know who you are so you can stop pissing and moaning on here and following me around.

I am the only Redditor that you follow. Get a fucking life and stop wasting your time posting shit you know nothing about.

[–]SierraTater 1 point2 points ago

This one has gone way off topic. What does this have to do with a poor puppy with parvo?

[–]hears2U 0 points1 point ago

Not one darn thing.

[–]down2zero 0 points1 point ago

I see dead people . hahahha

[–]hears2U 0 points1 point ago

Say what ???????

[–]JohnnyDeppya 0 points1 point ago

Appearantly "purplesage" has "celery" stalk issues. If you don't give this individual a reach around, they get offended. It is no wonder other redditors stopped replying and responding and started down voting to their comments when they disagreed with their comments. If you respond, they get nasty and claim you are "following" and/or are "stalking" them. Holy cow! Hey redditors....warning about "purplesage" ..... don't reply to anything this individual says if you do not agree with them. You will be deemed a "stalker" or a "follower" otherwise if you are new to redditor.

[–]FreeCuddles 0 points1 point ago

It is extremely easy for a puppy to contract parvo in a communal setting at a young age. If the puppy came from a breeder, then obviously it got parvo from the other dogs at the breeder's. If the puppy came from a pet store, there's a damn good chance the rest of them there have it, too. The first dog I ever bought surprised us with parvo 2 days after we bought her from a breeder. You're an idiot.

[–]down2zero -1 points0 points ago

not so. people can contaminate puppies by handling them at the breeders' home without even knowing it if they visited other breeders ahead of time. Parvo is a virus much like the flu only deadlier for puppies and dogs of all ages. Sorry but your wrong.

[–]FreeCuddles 0 points1 point ago

I wouldn't dare listen to someone who uses the wrong form of "you're".

[–]ickybalm9 0 points1 point ago

that's stupid

[–]raitai 24 points25 points ago

Please, please let your brother know that before he takes home a new puppy, he needs to disinfect EVERYTHING this little pumpkin touched. The floor, the bedding, the parts of the yard. It needs to be cleaned with at least 10% bleach. Parvomakes its living by being in the body for a short time but the environment forever. Even with proper sanitation, a new puppy can pick it up months later from this little one. Don't let any dogs with less than 3 vaccines go anywhere this little one went.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope you guys got to bring some joy to each others lives before she had to go.

[–]nevesis 5 points6 points ago

Also, please do not buy a puppy from a petstore. If the seller won't show you the living quarters and introduce you to the parents, it's probably a puppy mill.

[–]hears2U -1 points0 points ago

why do you assume puppies that are purchase from a pet store come from a "puppy mill " ? Are you aware that regular people give their puppies to pet stores just to get rid of them ?

[–]nevesis 0 points1 point ago

Because no reputable breeder would ever sell to a petstore.

And.. what?!?!

The problem is that this encourages the worst kind of karma-whoring. I'm not accusing the OP of this...just that other people notice this getting upvoted in a popular subreddit and start submitting stacks of 'Reddit, my [blank] died this morning! Please upvote!'. Seriously, one post like this on the front page, and pet death rates suddenly skyrocket. I'm very sorry for the OP, but you could post the photo without the backstory, or post the backstory in /r/petloss.

I'm so sorry for your brother's loss :'(

Next time he gets a puppy, he should think about having the puppy vaccinated for parvo ASAP. The vaccine works really well, and it might help him avoid this kind of tragedy in the future. Not that it will help the hurt right now tho. Bailey is super cute. i'm sad she's gone.

[–]Fae_Selene 5 points6 points ago

Parvo usually takes a couple of weeks to kill a dog, most likely the puppy had it before they got her.

[–]SilentChimp 2 points3 points ago

My puppy seemed to get it overnight. On Christmas Day (yeah, great present) he started throwing up over and over and over with no reason. I eventually drove him to the only emergency vet place within a couple hours that was open on Christmas and they kept him overnight. They said the next day that if he hadn't have taken him that day, he would have died overnight, so it can happen quickly. He bought him from a respected breeder and everything (with papers), so just make sure you make 100% sure he's had everything he's supposed to before you buy/adopt. My dog is a happy 5 year old Holden Retriever now :)

[–]icametoplay4 1 point2 points ago*

Parvo has an incubation period of a couple days. This past June i had a litter of 5 puppies, and after 5-6 weeks the mother started showing signs of Parvo. And a day later all the puppies did too.

We took the mother to the vet to stay overnight, and we couldnt afford to hospitalize the pups, and it infuriated me that all the vet could say was 'Its a hard thing to do, but without round the clock care here, all you can really do is watch them fade.'

So i get my ass to the internet and find herbal supplements called 'Vibactra Plus' and 'Parvaid.' Bewildered why the vet didnt mention these treatments, i go pick these up with Pedialyte, and i put a small portion of gatorade in there for sugars. When the gums of the teeth are pale, it usually means they're low on glucose and an easy way to counter that is to take a dab of maple syrup or molasses and brush it on the gums.

So for about a week it was 1-2 hour intervals between treatment, making sure they orally took water, and i would also mix puppy food in the pedialyte to make it into a mush consistency that the puppies could ingest via needleless syringe.

The herbal extracts when taken are supposed to stimulate the hunger for the puppy's need to eat, but for the first 2-3 days they need to be hydrated at least once an hour or two, with corresponding dosages of the herbal extracts according to the pet's weight.

tl;dr: All 5 puppies survived parvo with attention to hydration and routinely medicating, costing about $100. The Mother Survived Parvo with a $2300 Vet Bill.

[–]so_then_I_said 0 points1 point ago

Herbs? It's 2012.
DA2PP Vaccine is affordable prevention. Could have saved you $2,200.

[–]icametoplay4 0 points1 point ago

Yes. Parvaid and Vibactra Plus=Herbal Extracts. They did NOT in fact cost 2200 bucks. It cost $100 dollars and some time and patience to medicate.

The Trip to the Vet for the mother did cost $2,200.

So_Then_I_Said(Without Reading), The mother was believed to be fully vaccinated, but when the parvo vomit started, it was clear that was not the case.

[–]so_then_I_said 1 point2 points ago

Apologies. I meant vaccinating the mother would have saved you $2,200. I thought you were a no-vaccine nut.

[–]icametoplay4 0 points1 point ago

Oh, No.

The only time i was unsure about vaccinating, was this last time around after the fact the puppies had gotten parvo. I was unsure if they still needed their shots after getting over it and being healthy.

I'm still unsure if its necessary, but i did the first set anyway before they found permanent homes.

[–]raitai 0 points1 point ago

Even if their body has immunity, you immunize just to be safe, always, as if they never had any shots. That way, you know. Also, its likely the vet wouldn't know about any herbal medicines that are sold online... Because why would we? I am very glad that your little ones pulled through but stuff you buy from herbal stores online are not really what we deal with in school.

[–]icametoplay4 0 points1 point ago

Well it wasnt online only, i found out about the extracts online and tracked them down at the local pet pharmacy. They had bottles upon bottles of it. Why do they [vet clinic] not carry it for take home treatment as an alternative to owners who can't drop 1600 for overnight care? Maybe because they'd be losing 1400 on that one pet? Not a good business model.

I'd like to believe that veterinarians would know what products are available in the city they work that treats these, especially parvo, as it seems to be common. However depending on where one would live could change the availability of the stuff.

Something that fights against parvo and had suggested a 80% success rate, and a 100% rate in my case, SHOULD be both: taught to vets in their breeding illnesses chapters, presented as an alternative for home care.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

The breeder should have offered to refund your money or at the very least, offer another puppy. The problem with that is, the other puppies most likely are infected also.

[–]SilentChimp 0 points1 point ago

They did, actually. They gave us the money back we paid for him (~$150) but didn't offer to cover the medical bills. So basically we still ended up paying ~$150 for the puppy after the $300 bill. It was well worth it, of course, but I wish they would have given us the money for the vet bill, it was only right.

Long story short, he's alive and happy now, so it's all worth it :D

[–]fujimitsu -2 points-1 points ago

Vaccine wouldn't have done shit if it died this quickly it was previously infected.

Treatments for an existing condition like this are $2k+ and have a pretty grim survival rate.

[–]SuperRezzy 3 points4 points ago

My girlfriend and I had a puppy with parvo. We managed to get some medication from a neighbor and kept him hydrated with Pedialyte. By some miracle, he got through the parvo and grew up to be the most obedient, loving, loyal, devilishly handsome animal I have ever known.

[–]SilentChimp 1 point2 points ago

Mine was $300 and survived. I don't know where you went for a $2,000 bill...

[–]fujimitsu 0 points1 point ago

Depends on how far along they are when you go for treatment.

Ours required quite a long "hospital stay" which adds up even for pets :*(

[–]JaneRenee 32 points33 points ago

I'm really sorry for you loss. That said...

DO NOT POST THIS HERE. This is for happy stuff, not sad stuff.

To everyone doing this (not just OP): Quit ruining this subreddit with your dead pets!

[–]yhoundeh 9 points10 points ago

Vaccinate your goddamn puppies. Don't buy from puppy mills, try shelters first. LISTEN TO YOUR VETS.

I feel like this happens every damn week on Reddit. "Got a puppy. Died to parvo. LOOK AT IT! I WANT KARMA!"

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points ago

Totally agree. Don't buy from anyone that calls themselves a 'breeder' unless you have done a great deal of research about them. There are too many people who jump on the breeding 'bandwagon' simply to make money. They don't do any testing on the parents or the offspring and will lie to the buyer.

One of my siblings is one of those type of 'breeders'. She used to call herself a "professional dog breeder" then after a few years she called herself a "hobby breeder". She only sold on the Internet and knowingly sold some pups that were infected with the Parvo virus.

Many complaints were posted online about her and inevitably ruined her reputation. She is now trying to sell the dogs that she has left. These dogs were puppies that did not get sold and are adult dogs now.

People like my sister should never be considered a 'breeder' and probably should never even own pets. Her 'policy' states that no one is allowed to see the kennels, no one can see the parents of the puppies, no one is allowed on her property period.

When she was still selling puppies she demanded to be paid in full but the buyer wasn't allowed to physically see their puppy until my sister shipped it to them or until the buyer was in town to pick up the dog. My sister would then drive the puppy to town and meet the buyer so the buyer wouldn't see my sister's property. Her property looks like a junkyard or a landfill from Google Earth. No wonder she didn't want anyone on her property!

My point is, stay away from people like this. If a breeder refuses to allow you on their property, move on. Call their local vet and ask about the breeder. Try to get the breeder to give you references. Look up their name online. Don't get screwed by someone trying to sell you a puppy or any other animal.

There are many wonderful pets waiting for homes at your local shelters. They have already been vaccinated and examined. The fee is usually small for adoption.

[–]hears2U -1 points0 points ago

Where did you buy your dog from might I ask ? Also, what type of "research" did you do before you bought your dog ? Id like to know how many dogs you've purchased from a breeder ? From what I have read about your comments so far, "purplesage", youve made multiple derogatory comments about your mother, father and now your "sibling". IS there anyone in your family that you DO like ?

[–]JohnnyDeppya 0 points1 point ago

"there are many wonderful pets waiting for homes at your local shelters and they have already been vaccinated and examined". Where, purplesage ? Shelters and Humanesocieties don't provide these services. Not in my area. You pay the low adoption fee for the dog or cat and they give you a paper to take to the vet to get a reduction on the altering.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

Nothing I post is ANY of your business so you shouldn't try to make it your business.

What difference does it make to you how I feel about my family anyway? There is one family in particular that I would love to spend a little time with. I say "a little time" because that's all I need.

I do believe I told you to stop stalking me on here. Are you always this stupid or is today a special day for you?

By the way you continue your harassment I can tell that your parents were related. You must be so proud.

[–]hears2U -1 points0 points ago

Purplesage doesn't want anyone to know they more than likely purchased their dogs from breeders and someone else stated they dumped dogs ...er sorry...rehomed dogs. So what they really are is a hypocrite here on reddit. They are very uneducated when it comes to their statements about kennel clubs and breeders. Until they walk in the shoes of a breeder and perform the tasks of a breeder, shelter or any agency....they should not be making any comments whatsoever regarding things they know nothing about. My opinion is this individual is jealous; envious; needs anger management and is clearly self involved.

[–]JohnnyDeppya -1 points0 points ago

I up vote that.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

Your parents must be so proud of you. On the other hand, baboons don't know anything about pride do they?

[–]hears2U 0 points1 point ago

nice way of avoiding the question.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Tell you what. Let's get together and put an end to this. Say when.

[–]hears2U 0 points1 point ago

Wow a real honest to goodness invite. Would you like to meet at the town square on main street in the Magic Kingdom or it can be at the Pirates of the Caribbean since you like "adventure".,,, Perhaps "Tommorrow Land" since "Tomorow" never comes ???

[–]Tightsqueeze 2 points3 points ago

Parvo. Scourge of the dog universe. Almost lost my first dog to it; took 3 days in a clinic for him to pull through. Filthy virus.

[–]Dementati 5 points6 points ago

[–]Sr_DingDong 3 points4 points ago

Doesn't make me sad. It's a nice dog that looked happy.

[–]Luvzmykunt 6 points7 points ago

I lost my little pit pup (kato) after 1month to parvo and he had all his shots. it was so sad, but there are so many good dogs out there that need homes. I've rescued many dogs since and it's always a great feeling. I also worked for a pet sitting company after that helped me with pets coming and going, I had to put a clients dog down while the client was serving in the Army overseas. =< always sad, nothing you can do but move on. Good luck, sorry for your loss

[–]longshot2025 6 points7 points ago

We're happy to see adorable pictures of pets that have passed on, but for God's sake don't TELL US THEY'RE DEAD!

That is all, thank you.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Good for him for taking her in. Sorry she died. She is adorable. She died with among people that loved her.

[–]Dinaks 4 points5 points ago

:( my puppy had that too...the vet threatened to take the pet store owner to court...so sorry for your loss

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Never buy animals from a pet store!!! Most puppies and kittens are from puppy mills.

[–]down2zero -1 points0 points ago

are you aware that's not true ? Your neighbor is more than likely to sell a litter of puppies or kittens to a pet store more often than not than a commercial breeder. Joe Blow down the street who wanted his kids to get a first time experience with "life" but couldn't handle the reality of the problems that come with a litter of puppies are 9 times out of 10 the culprits of off loading litters of animals to pet shops than commercial breeders. Get a reality check.

[–]tofagerl 6 points7 points ago

And that's why you buy your dogs from a breeder, not a pet store. Breeders vaccinate and treat animals like animals, not like merchandise.

[–]meganahs 6 points7 points ago

or adopt from a local animal shelter... Try to stay away from pet stores that are possibly fueled by puppy mills.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Not all breeders are reputable. Google "reputable breeders vs backyard breeders". There are many things to look out for.

They seem to be allergic to veggies and stalks.

[–]the-game-changer 1 point2 points ago

I'm surprised you haven't been buried in downvotes. Reddit seems to have a hate-hard-on for breeders. Whether it be the rationale that breeding is immoral because there are so many stray dogs, or the mistaken belief that anyone who breeds dogs is a greedy, selfish profiteer who has a puppy mill.

[–]tofagerl 4 points5 points ago

Context is everything. If you're going from a pet store, any breeder is better.

[–]raitai 0 points1 point ago

Today I had to tell a woman that her tri-colored short haired worky puppy with floppy ears is not the pure bred German shepherd she paid 600 for... Some breeders are good. The trick is knowing enough about what you want to not get fooled by assclowns with two intact dogs.

[–]Dinaks 0 points1 point ago

yea true...this was almost 14 years ago, my uncle made an impulsive purchase

[–]gmb0044 7 points8 points ago

[–]Mr_Moogles 1 point2 points ago

That's sad, but what's parvo?

[–]illElephant 1 point2 points ago

i love your bailey. i had the best dog named bailey, he was a boy though. he passed away a couple months ago, and i miss him everyday. he was the best cuddler, all he ever wanted was to be close to someone. i love you bai-bug

[–]SidewalkBanana 1 point2 points ago

I had a puppy which died of parvo. But his sister survived. Not a day goes by in which i am not glad that she survived.

[–]drinkme217 1 point2 points ago

This is not the place for dead pets.

[–]greaterthanthree -1 points0 points ago

My parents bred goldens. One litter, and only one litter, we had an outbreak of parvo. 5 Puppies died.

This is equally as sad as 5 dead puppies.

[–]christinac1 1 point2 points ago*

This happened to me :( I got a beautiful mix of the same two breeds my deceased dog was a year ago, and her name was Naia. She contracted parvo from the pet store. She tested a false negative for it, but one night she got very sick and wasn't getting any better. She was too young yet to be vaccinated for it, too. We took her again to the vets and they hospitalized her immediately. I bleached the entire room where she was kept, her kennel, her waterbowl, her collar. You need to bleach every place she's been and thoroughly wash all of your clothes, or the virus can linger. She was pulling along for two weeks, and we saw her every day, but had to put on gloves to see her and thoroughly wash our hands afterwards. It was horrible. She was so sick, and there's no cure - the dog has to conquer it or they die. She was so strong, Naia. She seemed to be doing better until she got pneumonia from the IV she had, and the parvo and pneumonia progressed too far where even surgery could not help her. We had to put her down. I got so irreversibly attached that it moves me to tears even to this day. She was my little fighter. She was so small, and so young. The pain is unbearable. You want to help but there is nothing you can do but give her anesthesia. I felt so horrible, so broken, for weeks. The absence was like a black hole. The best way to get over it is to get another dog, and that's what we did, several months later. It's the best way to heal. Coming home to an empty house is the worst - when you have a new puppy (or older dog) to take care of, little by little, that begins to mend the hole in your heart. My dog's name is Shadow, and he survived to adulthood without any trace of the parvo virus. :) He's currently almost two. I hope that your brother is doing better than I did. I hope it helps to know that there are other people who've gone through what your family has been through, and that I'm doing quite fine as of now. Best wishes to all of you, and I'm so sorry that you had to go through this. Nobody, especially the dog, deserves this horrible disease. I wish you all the best of luck, and I'm so sorry for your loss. It gets better, I promise.

[–]Ataraxiia -1 points0 points ago

Can people just please stop posting these depressing pics on aww? Jesus fuck my morning was bad enough, and now you put this shit on me when I try to go to aww to feel good? Come on dude. Sorry for your loss but please reconsider where you post shit next time.

[–]unkyduck 0 points1 point ago

That's just about the saddest thing ever.

[–]deliberately_stupid 0 points1 point ago

Fuck. I once had a puppy beagle that died from parvo as well. It's honestly still pretty haunting... It's only 8:50am, but already this makes me feel like having a drink.

[–]AliceA 0 points1 point ago

Hugs to all-this is tough...best solution go out and give another dog a chance for a happy home.

[–]nsluggs 0 points1 point ago

Sorry for your loss broski. I lost my pitbull puppy that had a heart shaped nose to parvo too. I got him on Craigslist. Traded my Xbox to get him. Man fuck parvo and fuck Craigslist and fuck you too for reminding me

[–]Hectorial 0 points1 point ago

we had a puppy we adopted from the pound for $10. 2 weeks later she had run up $1200 in credit card debt at the vet where we had to admit her for parvo. (could have spent $200 and kept her at home, but we werent going to be home to take care of her if she needed anything).

Tami-flu has been found to be extremely effective against Parvo when caught early enough. Our pup was practically unconcious when we got her to the vet and she pulled through. treatment is simple, tami-flu and IV fluids until they are well enough to eat and keep food down.

[–]-Mew 0 points1 point ago

:( no more internetz.
...too sad

[–]prplemoos 0 points1 point ago

WHAT IS PARVO AND HOW DO I KILL IT?

[–]CooperHaydenn 0 points1 point ago

what is this parvo and why is it killing all of these puppies?!

[–]Riri6251 0 points1 point ago

That happened to my best friend. She had a chocolate lab mix that died exactly a week after they got her. So I feel your payment I'm sorry for you and your brothers loss.

[–]TRGGRHPPY17 0 points1 point ago

She was very beautiful. My condolences to you all. Also what kind of dog was she, I was thinking of getting a dog and she seems like the perfect breed.

[–]hears2U 0 points1 point ago

aw.... kk cute.

[–]josquared 0 points1 point ago

Sorry for your loss. I had a litter of puppies that all contracted parvo at the same time. I was in Colorado for a week and on my way back was told my my neighbor that 3 of the 5 puppies had died under the shed. When I returned the same night the 4th died. I had one pup left and was determined to not let it die. I took it to the vet and they made me go through the back door because of how contagious the disease was. They asked if I wanted to put the puppy down but I said No! I took her home and force fed her pedialyte through a syringe for about 5 days straight. She pulled through and grew to be a healthy adult dog. Keep puppies hydrated because parvo attacks the intestines that absorb water and nutrients and they just may survive. I am sorry for the loss. Just thought I would share my story.

[–]dumbdes 0 points1 point ago

My boyfriend also got a puppy last month that died after a week from parvo. :(

i had never seen my boyfriend cry before.

[–]azndragon20 0 points1 point ago

sad loss..but at least it had a owner that cared for it..even if it was a short while..many dont even have that chance...

[–]my8thchannel 0 points1 point ago

[–]harleykins78 0 points1 point ago

: ( that is terrible... im really sorry.

[–]sammerswtf 0 points1 point ago

infant death rates are rarely reported and are a sign of a society's health. pet death rates are often reported and a sign of society's collective sadness.

i am deeply sorry for you loss.

[–]Hezkezl 0 points1 point ago

Fuuuuuuuuuuu.. this looks just like the puppy I had when I was younger, named Gizmo, who also died of Parvo :(

[–]JaneGael 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for sharing her. She should not be forgotten. Celebrate her life. She lived and she was loved. I hope your brother can rescue another puppy soon.

[–]Yukenna 0 points1 point ago

I'm so sorry. After working at a vet's office, I've seen the devastation parvo can leave behind. As other posters have mentioned, though, make sure to bleach EVERYTHING the dog has touched (especially defecation). The virus can live in the environment for months.

Bailey looked like an adorable puppy. She was well loved in her short life!

[–]luckers -4 points-3 points ago

I don't mind seeing these posts. Adorable puppy, sorry for your loss :(

[–]Machii -1 points0 points ago

Poor thing. She had not only the same name as my late mutt, but she also had the exact same markings, from the white between her eyes to the tip of her tail. Same short floppy ears also : ( What breed was she? I never knew the breeds of mine.
