More like bromance.

Seriously they're both male.

I was thinking the same thing... usually males of a bird species is more colorful than the females, and here they both look exactly colorful.

Well, one's missing the red cheek patch - so the one with it's head (given typical finch coloration) against the other's chest is actually the male. Aside from that, most species of birds are not sexually dimorphic (either in size, morphology, or coloration). Real lovebirds (these are in fact finches) are not sexually dimorphic, and require a DNA test to tell gender (that is unless you get one that's old enough to start laying eggs).

I don't know what those are (finches maybe?) but they aren't lovebirds

Yes, they're some kind of finch. Lovebirds are a type of parrot. I should know, my fiance and I have a spoiled one in a huge cage behind me, and he can talk... and he sounds like a demon.

I know they aren't lovebirds. They just look so cuddly together : )

I agree. It's a nice picture and nice to see birds in /r/aww. We need more birds!

Looks like they could be Blue-Breasted Cordon Bleu, a type of Estrildid finch.

Here is all I could find, and it states they are more or less sexually monomorphic. Other random sites state that female tend to be the same in colour, just a little more muted hue. While TinEye shows no other sources for this picture, it may be that there is a male and a female, however the photographer may have enhanced the colours a bit.

Or they could be a could of gay cocks :)

There's actually a Red Cheeked Cordon Bleu finch. Only the males have the red cheek patches.

Ah! Good catch! I feel a slight bit of shame in missing that. I don't really know a whole lot on birds, but was excited to research some. I miss being in school :(

Thank you for your correction. I'm happy to have learned something.

No problem. In return, I just sang your username to myself to the tune of Hava Nagila.
